Taking personal items as part of move - Can you get insurance

We are not shipping our high value personal effects when we move so we will be carrying about £20-£30,000 of jewellery and watches with us on our flight to Australia. We've tried to get insurance for this, bit no one seems to want to cover it. Has anyone done the same and managed to get cover? If so, who did you use?

Also, will we have any problems when going through customs with this amount of jewellery/watches on us? Will we need to carry any proof of purchases etc as some of them have been gifts and we don't have receipts for all of them?

Thanks so much for any help.

Rich

I am a Director of Insure-Your-Move.com

You should be able to obtain cover for these items as 'accompanied luggage' as part of a personal travel insurance Policy. There will be limitations such as excluding loss for mysterious disappearance, items must be carried on board and not in the aircraft hold etc but we would recommend you speak to a specialist travel insurance company in the first instance.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Would you know any such companies that I could try?

Thanks, Rich

Try Sennocke Ins. Brokers based in Sevenoaks, Kent on 01732 742102 or John Wason Ins. Brokers in Reading on 0118 9568800. Both specialise in single trip travel insurance and should have access to all the main insurers.
