Police Clearance Checks advice please

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I have today received an EOI invitation for 189 visa. My family and i have been living in WA for 7 months now on a 457 visa.

I know that the CO - in time- will request police clearance checks, but I am unsure if I require Australian checks due to being here 7 months? I am also unsure if my UK checks are still valid as they are 7 months old (we had them done days before we left in May)

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi Amanda

Congrats on receiving the invitation! Big stuff!

You can use the Police Clearance checks you already have in place, but you must remember they only have a 12month life. Personally I would be considering applying for updated clearances. You will need one from WA anyway. Please keep us updated on how you go.

Thanks for that! So I need WA clearances also then? I wasn't sure since I've only been here 7 months. I will just apply for them both then.

Yes I was surprised myself when the invite came through late last night, I only applied on 20.12.12. I have sat the correct IELTS for Immigration but not for my Skills assessment, so I am sitting the Academic next Saturday. The skills assessment is good to go just waiting on a pass of 7+ on each test .

If you do not hold a positive skills assessment - you can not apply for your visa.

You must HOLD a positive skills assessment.

"If you are submitting an EOI for a points based visa, you must have completed an English language test, skills assessment or job ready program (if applicable) before you submit a complete EOI." http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/index/faqs/#faq86649

If you do not have a positive skills assessment, you should withdraw your EOI.

As you have already been invited, you only get 2 invites with Skillselect, if you make another mistake again you may not be able to apply through Skill Select.
