Britain is hosting enough illegal immigrants to fill three cities the size of Newcastle, according to border officials.

A Home Office report says an estimated 70 per cent of the 863,000 illegal migrants are living in London.

The study also reveals that 10,000 foreigners who had no legal right to live in Britain have been granted permission to stay under the so-called 14-year rule.

It means they managed to stay in the country for so long without being booted out that the Government has now given up the fight.

I remember many years ago that Australia had a couple of 'amnesties' for illegal immigrants whereby if they declared themselves they would be made legal. Think the idea was to get them into the system and paying taxes etc.

Begs the question that if the government knows the number then why don't they know the location and remoce illegals? Very Daily Mail.......

Because they know they've entered the country but haven't left...............has nothing to do with knowing their location.

They have had two from memory but the last was back in the 80s.....unless I missed a later one. They claimed then it would be the last to stop folk coming in and awaiting the next one to legalise their status.

Do we envy them cause they live in such an exciting and busy city?

Filthy, polluted, expensive and way too many smellies. No, I don't think so.

I saw a documentary a few months ago about the problems facing Europe but the only thing they showed in relation to the UK was a border control station checking for people hiding in trucks that had passed through Calais. They found heaps of people but all that happened to the ones they found was that they were sent back to Calais. One guy had been caught four times that week and made no secret of the fact he would try again the next day - he figured he would eventually get through undetected.

The documentary didn't mention what programs are in place to deal with illegal immigrants in the UK. Do they have detention centres etc or do they rely on trying to catch them at the border?
