Plentymech
Has anyone experience with rental periods between a month and longer? I’m arriving in Feb and need a car and wondered if leasing may be a better idea or is it worth it renting for a few weeks and buying something. MARYROSE02
Bayswater Cars (aka 'No birds) is probably the best bet for renting in Sydney as they have late model cars - all white Toyota Corollas - at much lower prices than the 'biggies' like Hertz and Avis. Naomi from Manchester
Consider GoGet car share - really excellent if you live / will be driving to areas where they have lots of their own parking spaces, where you drop off / pick up cars. I think it's great if you're in the Inner West / city districts, maybe not so good if you're Northern Beaches way. Highly recommended, though. http://www.goget.com.au/

Highly recommended, though. http://www.goget.com.au/ I see those 'Go Car' (and others?) spaces and cars all around Surry Hills. I have never used them but they probably would have been better for me the first time I lived in Surry Hills, which I did for nine years without every owning a car. Odd weekends when I fancied a drive, I'd hire one from Bayswater on a Sat arvo and return it on the way to work at Garden Island on Monday morning. 'No Birds' base was on Darlo Road then in that old servo site - still there.
Naomi from Manchester
I think they're great and reasonably priced too. Lots of spaces in the car park where I live, so very easy for me. I've used No Birds too without any difficulties.
MARYROSE02
I don't know why 'No Birds' is so cheap, other than they just have the one depot in Kings Cross and they rent only white Corollas, because they are mostly late model - are some a year old?. I used them both times when I went on long road trips, although you are not allowed to go into WA from Sydney or north of Bundaberg.
Naomi from Manchester
Cos there's no birds I guess? Although they aren't cheap if you're renting over the Christmas / NY period.
