peanuts
I have been offered a job in Morningside, Eastern suburbs. Can anyone give me some feedback as to what kind of area it is to live in? Schools are important. Pluses are that rentals seem affordable and it isn't far from the CBD. One negative I've read is air traffic noise from the airport, as well as loads of barking dogs. We would love to live in the New Farm area initially, but long term we don't know how affordable it will be as property prices are exorbitant. The Fig Tree Pocket/Sinnamon park area looks lovely for young families, but my question is what would the commute be like from a)New Farm to Morningside (traffic? tolls?), and b)Fig Tree Pocket to Morningside. Can anyone suggest any other nice areas for young families in and around the Morningside area? Many thanks
Fashionably Late
The traffic would be pretty bad from Fig Tree Pocket to Morningside. You would be stuck in the car for ages to get the 22-23 km between places. My co-worker lives in the Belmont/Tingalpa area and his wife commutes to Morningside and he says it is lovely in that area. fish.01
If you can afford it Bulimba is a lovely area. You can commute to Morningside in a flash (a scooter would do) and on weekends you can catch the ferry across to New Farm and Teneriffe, the citycat into town or enjoy Bulimba itself. As far as aircraft noise goes you should be aware before you buy anywhere in the eastern suburbs that a parallel runway is coming to Brisbane Airport over the next decade and you might want to use the online guides or visit the information centre at the airport to work which pockets will be affected. fish.01
Peanuts have a look at this post I did recently for a peek at Bulimba: http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/chewing-fat/172249-les-mis-rables-bulimba-warning-photos.html
fish.01
Basically there are dozens of suburbs around Morningside that are fine for families but as you get further from the CBD they become more quiet and suburban and centered around shopping malls rather than inner urban life. It really depends what you prefer and budget.
peanuts
Oh my goodness, thanks fish.01, it looks really stunning, just what we would look for in a suburb. I am going to be as big as a house with all those divine cafes! I really appreciate your post, it gives you such a different perspective when looking at photos.
