Guest The Pom Queen
Can I ask a personal question? People who love AUS, pee me off when they call you failures, do you feel a failure? I really hope not, it takes a hell of a lot of guts to move here then move back, I think you should all be proud of yourselves.
Guest chris955
Absolutely not. I remember one person in particular said that but they are the biggest knob I have ever come across on a forum. I have seen it many times and people even referring to themselves as failures. As you say is it is far from the truth and in many ways it takes more guts to admit it was wrong and return. Guest TheSally
Been called crazy a few times when I say we're planning to move to the Uk next year. Always by people who have never left Australia.

It is drummed into Australians that Australia is the best country in the world and that you would have to be certifiable to want to live anywhere else. By contrast Brits seem to believe the opposite. Both are sad.
Quoll
I don't think anyone would dare call me a failure and I sure as hell don't feel like one but yes it does rankle when you get the "failure" label tossed nonchalantly along with the "home body" "tied to the apron strings" implications. On the contrary, I think of myself as an adventurer and Australia long since ceased to be an adventure for me.

Perthbum
A failure is someone who will not admit they were wrong....some remain in oz through stubbornness.
Kerry Pollard
I would never say we are a failure, I think its other people that have never done it think your mad for going back, my hubby's mates dad and mum have been here nearly 3 years and they constantly say bad things about the UK even though they still convert back to the pound, they say things like "you'd never get this in the UK" meaning the weather, " this is the life" "you wouldn't be doing this back their" and then when I told them I wanted to go home they told me a story about a family that had moved back to the UK only to move back here cause they realised they liked it better. Its all doom and gloom with them regarding the UK, I can't wait to tell them I'm going home for good. I don't know if their trying to justify being here, they have a lot of family and friends back home and especially grandchildren they haven't even met. I think we are some of the lucky ones as we are able to go home. Home is where the heart is. X
Sapphire
Too right Kerry, we are the lucky ones being able to go home. No way is anyone who wants to go home to the UK, a failure. They are usually people who have come here and seen Aus for what it is,,,warts and all. The ones who return are the success stories, the ones who have the guts, to say "Aus is not for me" There will always be the odd person in the UK, who asks"what did you come back here for?' but they will be people who have never been here, and believe all the hype about Australia. As far as anyone who calls returnees failure ,on a site such a PIO, or Aussies, well thier opinion means nothing, and they are usually complete a.......s anyway. Flathead
Not at all.....probably been more successful in many ways than a lot of migrants. Our decision to return is purely based on us seeing the UK as a better place to live....a rational decision.
