napster
Hi, Im an engineer from India. I have a relative in Oz who is willing to sponsor me. I have been doing some research and i see that every month there are only 200 visas for 489 whereas 2800 for 189 (correct me if im wrong), according to my calculations i have 60+ points and will qualify for both visas hence im confused between 149 and 189. Are the chances of getting invited on 149 more than 489??
blossom
They have already announced that they have nearly issued all the family sponsored visas for the financial year. If you can apply for the other visa it would definatly be better to go for.
Rupert
There is no reason why anyone should ever go for a 489 if they qualify for a 189. It is a no brainer.
napster
well i qualify for 189 but i could use the 10 extra points for 489 so 70 was a better score than 60 but thanx to the info blossom 189 it is...
Candygirl
We had enough points for a 189 visa, but we read that not many (if any) trades were being offered this visa so we plumped for the 489 Family Sponsored. The state we want to go to also did not have my husband's occupation on their SS List 1 and although it is only a moral obligation to stay in a state, we did not want to apply to another state having no intention of settling there, so the 190 was not an option for us. If we had the choice, we would have gone for a 189 or 190 visa as they are PR from day one. If you are concerned about being invited for the 189 is the 190 an option for you? I think you will need to speak to a reputable agent for their advice. Good Luck.
TeeTMI
Hi Napster If you qualify for the 189 it is generally considered the preferred option as it provides permanent residence, whereas the 489 is a temporary visa. As Candygirl points out, obtaining state sponsorship for a 190 is also an option. This can sometimes be useful especially if you have a lower points score.
