What is/was it about Aus...

Some of the things, that annoy me, in no particular order;

Crazy High prices for everything, (we pay more than mainlanders here in Tas, for just about everything.)

Lack of choice.

Shocking Driving.

The amount of Drink/Drivers (you are just no-one ,unless you drink/drive)

Being constantly on your guard, as everyone wants to overcharge and rip you off, as soon as they hear your accent.(mind they would rob thier own Grand-mother down here, so I have stopped taking it too personally:) )

Rude people, who push and shove to get where they want to go.

Ignorant people,with no manners whatsoever.

No bulk bill Drs (guarantee a referal, as well , everytime you go, even for something minor)

Pie and Sauce

Stinking wood heaters billowing out so much smoke, that its a health hazard to go for a walk

This is just a few of the things that drive me mad.

Racism - Aussies can be very 'entitled'

Bad manners, rudeness for no reason

Hot weather, burning sun, sunburn, blisters...

No extended family

Too expensive to travel outside of Australia on a regular basis

The drinking culture - not the drinking in general but the drinking at a children's birthday party or a school fete

For me, if there is one thing that irks me most about living in Aus, its the celebration and mythologising of what I consider quite a mediocre (lack of) 'culture': meat pies with sauce, sausage sizzles, barbies, mateship, battlers, the ANZAC legend, utes, V8s, everyone jostling with each other to be the most common working class bogan, even the pollies are at it.

There is so much more that Australia could aspire to, I really think they're missing a trick.

I totally agree with that, they seem to thrive on celebrating the mediocre. They iconise meat pies and clothes lines, it's actually quite sad in a way.

I hate the fact that Australians almost need to have their egos massaged, they need to be constantly told what a truly awesome country Australia is, there seems to be massive insecurity.

Ah, the mateship thing. Feck that gets me. In my industry, there are not many of us worldwide. The normal rule is that you help and protect each other to a big degree. For example, there is an unwritten rule that you do a LOT to help students. I give a bit of cash to my old uni, meet with students and try to arrange work experience. I know everyone does this. Except Australians, where not only will they not do some of the above, but will go out of their ways to backstab each other.

A couple I know who were highly regarded in Oz joined a British camp. The Brits got so pissed at them trying to backstab and play games they were forcibly driven out to a point in the middle of the sahara and dumped.

When I joined the industry, a friend with 30 years in it, gave me some pointers. One of which is "never trust a Australian geologist. They will stab you in your sleep". I thought he was mad. Now, I think he is wise.

This Aussie mateship thing is the biggest myth ever, it may have been true back in the 60's but nowadays it seems to be eat or be eaten.

It seems as though many Aussies and seemingly many migrants are just happy to believe the bullshit they are fed. Some seem incapable of seeing the slightest problem in Australia and even if they can they will quickly tell us it is even worse in the UK though :)

The lack of choice that a smaller country and higher population brings. The acceptance of everything without question because they are in 'the lucky country'.

The inaccessibility to everywhere. The lack of people walking, the lack of community, barefoot filthy feet when you are trying to buy food in the supermarket. Feeling like it's 1950's midwest America.

Everything having to have the 'Australia owned and made' stamp on...banging on the Aussie drum all day long...they even change the name of 'Old macdonald had a farm' to 'old Steve Irwin had a zoo' in my youngests toddler group. Having know interest in anywhere else in the world.

Feeling like I was living on Mars....

What makes me..

Sad: that our life here is not how I'd imagined it would be.

Unhappy: daughter is growing up fast without her extended family

Angry: insularity of the place and people, the myth of the friendly Aussie (it's just that, a myth), the prices of everything arrrgh, the substandard driving standards, corrupt police, incompetent government, substandard quality of housing, substandard quality of just about everything..., the belief is Australia is the best (yeah right), braindead hoons tearing up my quiet residental street... and my naivety of believing all that propaganda bullsh7t they try to ram down our throats (before we moved)

Depressed: that I want to be in England, but right now, I can't.

c'mon PB, you're with us now, its safe.

What was it about Perth/Aus that has made you hang around PIO in various guises over the last few years?

Just the bullshit about the Aussie way of life, the racism of Aussies, the way that Aussies think everything outside of oz is crap, the Aussie bloke who thinks he as a bigger cock than you, the shallowness of the country, the government and t people who have no empathy for other races,.......shall I go on.

My list would be quite extensive, although along the same lines as many have already mentioned on here.

At the moment the BIGGEST thing for me (especially as the temperature is going to be about 43 degrees tomorrow) is the bloody heat!!!!!! It is hideous. Why people think that this heat equates to be a better lifestyle is beyond me ............

I can identify with a lot of what others have said but, on the whole, do not have a problem with most things here.

I get well paid for a pretty cushy job (albeit with a vast amount of experience)...and, at my age, can't complain about that.

what really bugs me is the migrants from the UK who slag off their own country all the time, especially when I see exactly the same things they are complaining about happening over here.....but that is overlooked or excused.

Most of my so called 'negative' posts are really just a way of retaliating.

Migrants slagging off the UK, makes me cross as well. The UK has problems, no-one can ever deny that, but some people are so blinded and they think Aus is perfect and has none of the issues the UK has. They must walk around wearing blinkers or be seriously deluded.

We have had 5 murders in Tas in 10 days, I dont think thats a problem free society, but there would be those who would deny it, and say it doesant happen:)

The post ,where the OP, had said they were "divorcing the UK," was an absolute classic,,,,they must of had a s..t life back there.I dread to think where they had come from:)

The heat is just awful, we only have 27 today thank goodness, but thats still enough, with the humidity.I spend my day hiding away indoors.

I will be glad to escape the heat.I wont miss it at all.

Hope you manage to keep out of today x
