carlylou84
Me and my friend have completed our registration to work as nurses in Sydney, now were job hunting and wanting some ideas on the best places to live. We like the idea of Pyrmont or Surry Hills but want to know in reality how far a walk is it from the City Centre? How expensive is it to live and finally where the nearest hospitals are? Any help or direction would be appreciated :-) Carly
northshorepom
Both easily walkable from the city centre, which most would say stretches up from Central station to Circular Quay, and bounded by Darling Harbour on the west side, and Hyde Park/Botanic Gardens/The Domain on the east. The furthest part of Surry Hills is maybe a 15 minute walk from Central, the furthest part of Pyrmont maybe 10 minutes from Darling Harbour. All central suburbs are expensive to some extent, depending on what you regard as expensive. Think $500pw as an entry point to a decent small flat. maybe $300-$350pw as a flatshare? Nearest hospitals the RPA (Royal Prince Alfred) by the University of Sydney in Camperdown, or Vinnie's in Darlinghurst
ozziepom
We used to live in Pyrmont and its an easy walk to Darling Harbour where we worked, however its expensive and I found it pretty soulless.
Crees
Hi Carly, I've just come back from holidaying in sydney and spent some of the trip in pyrmont. It was very accessible to hop on the bus to the CBD, took 15 mins max, and then from the city it's even more accessible to hop on ferry / train / bus to any area. I found the transport system so quick. We didn't wait for any mode of transport for longer than 5 mins in the 3 weeks we were there!!! I think anywhere in sydney will be seen as expensive, compared to the uk anyway! Surrey hills is quite a cool trendy area, there is so much choice it's very difficult!!!! Goodluck with the move x
