Shankie
Hello friends, First of all, i sincerely hope everyone had a good holidays. Happy new year to all. I am a 32 yr old male, currently on dependent student visa. i.e. my wife is doing P.H.D and i am her dependent and i can work full time. She is going to complete her P.H.D in october 2013 and her (mine too) visa is going to end on april 2014. As per my knowledge as soon as she submits her thesis, we have to leave the country within 3 or 4 weeks. I am turning 33 in may Meanwhile, i've completed a post graduate degree in medical ultrasound recently (self study with training job).BUT I still have to submit 2 case studies and hopefully i'll get the completion certificate by end of Jan. I am appearing for IELTS on Jan 12th for the first time. My qualification will be easily assessed as if a accredited course but i still need to have IELTS 7. My wife cannot apply for the 18 monts temporary stay visa after her p.h.d because her profession does not fall into SOL 1 and neither she can give me partner points. I can get employee sponsorship, but i will keep it as a last resort, since i don't wanna change my current job.P.s. My current employee can't sponsor me As per my research online. Assuming i get 7 in IELTS, i've got only 55 points, if i apply before may 2013 (age-30,ielts-10,qualification-15). Planning to apply under 189 or 190. My questions are as follows: 1) will my pre-qualification training be counted as australian job experience? if yes, then i am lucky becasue by august i can add 10 points as i will be completing three years of australian job experience; even if i loose 5 points for age after may. or i can add five points for one year experience, if applying before may. My training is minimally supervised one. 2) If i apply for state nomination i still need 60 points but if i have sixty points i can apply for skillselect straight away without state sponsorship. Am i correct ? 3) Any suggestions in regards to extending my wife's student visa or stay longer ? 4) Should i consult a migration agent, if so any good recommendation near north sydney? 5) According to NSW SS, i should commit to stay in NSW for my first two years. But what if i have already worked and live here for more than two years, will they recognise it ? not that i want to move elsewhere, just curious. Thank you for bearing with me. You advice and guidance will be deeply appreciated.
lebourvellec
Welcome to PIO 1. Pre- Qualification training will likely not be able to be used for points purposes, as usually it is post qualification experience that it is used, only pre-qualification experience can be used if the work is the same as a qualified person, therefore is there is some supervision, likely not. Check with RMA. 2. If your occupation is on SOL 1 you can apply for 189, and lodge EOI once you have Skills assessment and IELTS. IF your Occupation is on CSOL schedule2, you will require State Nomination. 3. Not enough known about your wifes situation, would need to ask RMA 4. Yes - defiantly speak to a Registered Migration Agent - try George Lombard 5. Your first 2 years on the PR visa that NSW has sponsored you for, depending how long you have been in Australia, you may be eligible for citizenship after 1 year as PR, you can use time as TR for the 4 years qualifying period. Shankie
Thanks for the swift reply lebourvellec. Can you clarify further? Can i lodge EOI in skills select with 55 points ? I've seen lots of visas or invites in my skill unused till now, like may be 40 or 50 and there are still 1000 left. So is there a chance of me getting invited with 55 points and lodge for PR after that ? As in regards to my wife, she is doing her P.h.d in environmental sciences. She falls into SOL2 only in WA. But for accessing her skills, VETASSESS has a minimum requirement of 1 year of post qualification work experience, which she hasn't got. She got her visa on 3rd march 2010 so no transitional 485 or GTE. Her masters is in Hydro meteorology, which again neither falls in SOL 1 or SOL 2. I think there are two ways to extend her student visa, one - by taking a break in her course or by enrolling in a short Uni course for six months or one year when she finishes her PHD. lebourvellec
You will only be invited when you meet the pass mark which is currently 60 points. Get an agent to assess your case and find best strategy for you and your wife to get PR.
