JCS
Hi, My hubbie, daughter and myself all have a 175 skilled visa which we activated in June 2012. Since then daughter number 2 has come along and we have to apply for a child visa 101 which is another $2000. For our last visa we used an agent but we have been quoted approx another £600 to use an agent, money which I would prefer to save, and hope someone here has applied and could advise if we actually need to use an agent. I have also been told the processing time is about 9 months, does anyone have any experience of this?

Got our visa's (175 using an agent) and validated them then baby number 2 came. We did the child visa application ourselves and like you said saved a good few pounds. The process is very straightforward. You get a checklist when you download the application form so it tell's you exactly what to send off. We got a reply within a week via email from our case officer informing us to have medical done for the child and police check done for ourselves. She said the application would take 6 months and it did to the day. We sent our application to the London office. Good luck.
Guest GeorgeD
Where was the child born? Children born in Australia whose parents are Australian Permanent Residents acquire Australian Citizenship from birth. If it was outside Australia, then you'll need a visa. I believe it is indeed the Child Visa 101.

Otherwise it is a case of filling in a form, it is not like skilled migrant visa where you have to prove all kinds of things like work experience etc. Yes I believe it takes about 9 months at the moment. pwkl
Did it myself, wouldn't bother with agent. Best thing is read through the forms, then read again with the notes and be clear on what you need to provide. It was quite straightforward. We had to get police checks again due to expiry of previous ones, and a medical for son but also straightforward, no xrays required.
