Guest
I'd wait till you arrive re looking for work. Just make sure you have some savings in case to fall back on. Don't forget on a WHV you can only work for each employer for 6 months. Personally I'd travel round a bit and see some of Aus. Make the most of the WHV and enjoy your year. Try to take in a few cities and places. I'd not stay in one city or state for the duration.
robertmckinney
well we might just go and stay with our family in perth for the few months to save extra money then go down to brisbane to see out out visa. will it be possible to extend your visa if u want to stay longer or would you have to apply for a totally different visa? is ther any other places you would recommend visiting aswell as brisbane? Rupert
well we might just go and stay with our family in perth for the few months to save extra money then go down to brisbane to see out out visa. will it be possible to extend your visa if u want to stay longer or would you have to apply for a totally different visa? If you do three months of regional work (e.g. fruit picking / farming) you can get a second WHV, otherwise you would most probably need to look into skilled migration. is ther any other places you would recommend visiting aswell as brisbane? Well of course! Sydney, Melbourne, Tasmania, Cairns & Great Barrier Reef, Whitsundays, Uluru (Ayers Rock), Broome, Darwin ... to name a few. skippy79
I have asked my unlce who was a painter in nsw, as soon as I know, I'll let you know what the going rates are....
zidden
If you are young enough and have no commitments then I would just go with the flow. You might end up somewhere you never quite expected. Just be laid back and calm in the land down under and everything will work out.
skippy79
Right, he used to have painters working for him aand would pay them 30$ an hour, but this was about 5-10yrs ago, so don't know if the rates have changed. good luck and have fun
robertmckinney
Cheers! Doing a bit of travelling sounds good now. Was Just ment to be going to work and live but may aswell travel more of the country while I'm ther. Gettin a permanent visa is always an option. The working holiday is just to see if we r going to enjoy living on the country. By the sound of it I think I will lol. Cheers for asking your uncle n stuff. fergamy
Painters in Perth get about $25 an hour. But if you are coming on your WHV you will do all kinds of work and one thing I would say is try stay in hostels at the start of a new city so you meet like minded folk and have a good time, enjoy all Australia has to offer. Work hard and save for a few months then travel for a few months then do your regional work for a 2nd year visa which is a great option and then travel again. Best of luck with it all mate. Guest Bazinga
I'd get a white card, you can do it online. I know people who hire painters/decorators ad hoc but they have to have a white card first.

Guest
We have a WHV forum here with lots of tips for backpacking, finding the regional work to get you your second year WHV (not everywhere is eligible and so you need to research where to go to do the work and when etc). http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/backpacking-whv/
