Guest The Pom Queen
As anyone been to see the Hobbit, went yesterday and I am not sure if I liked it or not, not really the movie but the way it was filmed, I can't explain but it looked like Tellytubby Land and looked so unrealistic, yes I know it isn't real but usually you watch a film and feel part of it, to me this just all seemed as though the characters were super imposed. Surf N Turf
I've been told it's nearly three hours long. That's what's putting me off. Did it seem too long?

The first hour for me dragged but then it picked up. We are off to see Life of Pi tonight (my son bought me movie vouchers for Christmas)
LKC
I love The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings as books, and I enjoyed the films of Lord of the Rings, but I have pretty much no desire to see The Hobbit in the cinema at all. I have heard some bad/indifferent reviews and having read the book dozens of times, I can't see how they are going to eek it out over three films. I just feel that he is using it as a money making exercise (and I know that that is why they make films), and just trying to squeeze every tiny ounce out of the books. I recently read The Life of Pi and would like to see that I think, if we can find someone willing to have the children for a bit.
Parley
Is the Hobbit going to be over three films like LOTR was. I didn't know that ?

roger2shirts
@ LCK - I had the same worries as you but it was better than I imagined as nothing has been left out! Really is worth going - I want to go again! It lives up to the book.

Guest
Moving 2 Melbourne;1936071124]Did you see it at that stupid resolution though! I believe not all cinemas are and I wish we had found one that hadn't. The 48 frames per second resolution has drawn a few critics as it does make cinema look like live tv at times. I'm really looking forward to seeing it as I'm a huge Tolkien fan, but I'll probably find a screening of it at 24 fps as it's a bit gentler on the eye. As for whether it'll work over three films, it does sound like a bit of a stretch, but Peter Jackson is including a lot of material from the appendices of 'The Return of The King.' These are bits and pieces of the back-stories of the peoples of Middle Earth that Tolkien didn't really know what to do with, so he pretty much lobbed it all into the appendices. Really what Peter Jackson is giving viewers is 'The Hobbit' and these left over bits of the 'Lord of The Rings.' I really hope it works, but the critics haven't been too kind. One of the best movies of all time. A certain for best picture at the oscars.

Parley
I haven't seen it yet (life of Pi) but heard it is excellent. I don't think this is the sort of movie though that wins a best picture Oscar. I'm looking forward to seeing Hitchcock. That is more like the type of movie the hollywood academy would like for best picture. The oscars can be quite political and has to be right type of movie. BritChickx
I'm also looking forward to seeing The Host. I read the book which was amazing! So can't wait for the film to come out, it'll never meet my expectations compared to the book but hopefully it'll be near enough.
