familyof4
After alot of talking and researching we are finally starting the visa process. My husband is a self employed carpenter. I have printed off all the info from the vetassess website needed but i cannot see any reference to self employed people and what they need to send in with their application form. Can anyone help please?
Guest scrumpy
Self-employed plumber here, same kinda thing and basically I had to send anything and everthing, you can think of that will prove he is a self-employed chippy. Refrences from customers suppliers, main contractors, supplier invoices, invoices raised, bank accounts all qualifications, statutory declarations. the more the better, I went back over 15 years. We are using an agent so are advised by them, but have passed the skills select!!
familyof4
Well done for passing your skill test. Have you been given any paperwork from vetassess which tells you all the things to send to them or has your agent told you this?

familyof4
Are there any self employed people out there who have been through this?
Aussie bound
Hi Family of 4 We used an agent and too be honest I would recommend one.You need everything and anything trade certs, transcripts from technical college results, union subs, like has already been said references from merchants, accountants letters, even letters form revenue, bank references you need to be very clinical and organised they are very strict on you meeting the criteria and a lot of self employed fall down here.It takes a bit of time to get it all together at least two weeks any advice let me know we have been through this and came out the other end. familyof4
Thank you Aussie bound. I think you and scrumpy are right, it doesn't sound as straight forward as I was hoping. I thought I would be able to save some money but for the price an agent has quoted me it sounds like it is worth it.
Guest spreadingwings
Hi there. Here is a link to the docs required by Vetassess: http://www.vetassess.com.au/migrate_to_australia/qa2_required_documents.cfm And here's a link to the docs required specifically regarding employment - about halfway down the page you'll see the docs required for people who've run their own business: http://www.vetassess.com.au/migrate_to_australia/qa2_employment_evidence.cfm Good luck! Guest spreadingwings
Only a pleasure. I'm going through the same process you are right now, so I know how much there is to wade through - but it's doable, bit by bit
familyof4
Where are you up to in the process?
Guest spreadingwings
I've really just started. I've registered and paid Vetassess, and now have 30 days to send in the documentation. So I'm contacting past employers and my accountant (for the period when I ran my own company) and will then arrange for the certified copies of everything Vetassess needs, including university records etc. I've also booked the IELTS test for 12 Jan. Once I have both back successfully, I'll be able to apply to ACT for State Sponsorship. Once I have that back, I'll be able to submit an EOI, and then apply for a 190 visa once they send me an invite.

Mrmoose it's certainly not as easy and quick as you are proposing in your quotes have just gone through the whole process have just now been offered the 190with an agent after 18 months no joke pits a long and expensive process 60 days min for each part of trade recognition which one after the other ie for your qualifications then your years of employment 60 days min.trade test needs to be done all your employment must match up prove that you have your trade qualifications plus employment supervision after your time is out . I have been self employed for years and they will want proof that you were supervised for 2 years after your apprenticeships hey might recognise your trade but if your employment records are not rock solid they won't recognise your work experience if you can get a signed declaration from your former employer all wage slips past etc and all your trade certificates and I mean all i have run http://www.customfitbuilders.co.uk and they did not recognise mine at first had to re do my TRA
Guest spreadingwings
Jake, you're absolutely right, I'm not saying it's a quick process. I was just laying out the next steps. Just to clarify, I'm not going through trade qualification verification with Vetassess, I'm under Marketing Specialist but have a combination of working for companies and running my own over the last 10 years, which is why I still need to do some of the self-proof (via accountant) steps required by Vetassess. Guest spreadingwings
Mr Moose, I can't believe how organised you sound. I know what I have to do, but knowing it and getting it done are two different things! I think I need a lie down after finding out everything we need to collate for vetassess! LOL. Yes, it's quite a list. But you just have to start somewhere and before you know it you'll have everything you need.
Craig6686
Hi I am a carpenter was a self-employed for 4 years of my 12 years experience since I left school. I went through the process end of last year. I used an agent and for the 4 years I was self-employed, I had to write a self employed declaration of all the tasks I under took. Written in great detail on all the aspects of my trade and how I went about completing each job. Then had to take it the solicitors and do the hand on the bible business and swear that it was all true, in the presence of the solicitor. Vetassess accepted it and passed the papers. familyof4
I have heard back from Vetassess about what is needed with regards to self employment evidence. I thought I would pass the details on for the next person! This is their email we received: Thank you for your email. The documentary evidence you submit must be: 1. Related to the competency groups for your nominated occupation 2. Enough to show you can do all aspects of the competencies described for your nominated occupation 3. Your own evidence – about you and your work. If the candidate is self-employed, below documents should be submitted: Business registration details/business card/business advertisement Tax record/bank statements Reference from clients Photos of the work you have undertaken Purchase orders or invoices with your/ your business name Only include documentary evidence that clearly supports your application. The assessor will look for information in your documents that shows your skills match the Australian standards. You may submit original work experience documents but all other documents must be certified copies of the original documents. Signatures on all documents should be original. Photocopied or faxed applications are not accepted. Copies of documents will not be returned. Do not send original documents. Please keep a copy of all documents submitted. By Certify we mean take copies of your original work reference documents and certificates and get them certified as "True copies of original" from an authorised person like a government or Public servant like a policeman, Teacher, lawyer, Solicitor, Pharmacist, Accountant etc.... The same applies to the back of the photograph where they can write "In true likeness of Mr ----" and sign. Please ensure that you send us the name, designation, and contact details of the certifier. Hope this information clarifies matters for you. For any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.
