Guest The Pom Queen
Just wondered how much your current bed/mattress cost, as we spend half our life in bed do you splash out or go for the cheapest. We have just ordered one of the electrical beds (health reasons) it will be the most expensive bed we have bought, I think I can claim some back as my oncologist recommended it. The one we currently have we have owned for 8 years and the springs are coming through.

Guest
Our bed cost a fair bit. £1500 and worth every penny. Mattress is amazing, fully sprung and deeper than an average mattress. Frame is leather covered and its so comfortable. Love it.

Guest51810
Ours is a good one. Big thick mattress! We've had cheap ones in the past though, not very comfy
Candygirl
We have an Oak bed which is heaven. I love our bed and it is going with us to Oz too:yes: We paid a lot for the mattress, but OH always moans he thinks it is uncomfortable.
Petals
I think that cost does not equal comfort. I think we should be allowed to try before we buy with beds. I mean ten minutes lying on a bed is not long enough. The last one we bought we went to a store that had this computer thingy and we had to lay on it and it told us what sort of mattress we should have. Unfortunately it found we both needed different ones, so we had to compromise. So just get one that feels ok and if you do not spend too much you can always replace. Jacaranda
I love my bed frame but really dislike the mattress. When we brought the mattress it was from a factory in the town we lived in at the time,so we thought it was a good idea to support the local community.Mattress was fine for about a month, after that, springs were coming through! newjez
I'm almost embarrassed to say - but we went to the (bed shed I think it was in Morley - about 13 years ago) and asked for the cheapest king singles they had. We took 4, and they were less than $200 each. Two bolt together to form a massive super king, and the other two were used by our boys. After ten years, we had a spring come through our mattress, so we bought new beds for our boys, and we now use the boys beds bolted together. They have a lovely firm mattress. The bed is huge - it can and has slept five on occasion (steady - us and the kids) and very comfortable. As the mattresses are independent, you can get up without disturbing your partner. At that time, $200 was worth about 70 quid. Who said Perth was expensive.
Rupert
We have quite an expensive bed, a few GBP grand, I don't remember exactly. It has served us well, but is seven years old now and I would quite like a new one this year. A really big one.

Wellers and Whitehead
We got one of the cheapest in the shop at $900 in the sale and was awful. When we got overseas visitors we bought a mattress only for $1500.its much better but definitely not as good as the bed we had in the UK which only cost a few hundred pounds. Wish we had brought it with us!
fairystar32
We paid around $1500 for our king mattress and frame less than 2 yrs ago and HATE the mattress. It was a middle of the range ortho mattress and we hate it. We were on memory foam previously. We are going to save for a latex one asap, but buying a home is more important at the moment. Guest littlesarah
I am a Philistine when it comes to beds and pillows! I can sleep almost anywhere, and require only a very thin pillow. We have a secondhand mattress, though we're thinking of changing that for a new one this year. I've given up on expensive pillows - they're always to high for me. Now I just buy cheapo ones from Big W or K Mart and change them when they get ratty. For me, a bigger bed is just horrible - we stayed in a hotel a few months ago with a massively wide bed, and I felt so lonely! I hated having to roll over 3 times just to get to the middle of the bed, and I woke up one morning to hear my husband saying "where are you? you're too far away, come back!" I reckon that mattress comfort is mostly subjective, and I'm not convinced that a machine can measure my comfort level. But given that I usually go to bed when I'm fit to drop, I could (and sometimes do) sleep on the floor, as long as it's carpeted.
Johndoe
Bed was part of a bedroom suite deal and a decent mattress was the first thing we bought after paying off the mortgage............$2,200.............and that was sale price! Broke my bloody heart to spend that kind of money but it was a kind of celebratory gift for the missus.
Guest GeorgeD
I remember I bought a bed in the UK through one of my customers. I think it was about 12 years ago...I dealt with Hilton Hotels (we did their IT) and they did staff sales for beds...so I got one through someoneo on their helpdesk. I paid GBP180 (yes, a hundred and eighty), including delivery for a King Size Sealy Ambassador mattress and divan base. The Super Kingsize was only GBP 200. The Ambassador was the standard bed made specifically for Hilton Hotels. The beds were new (not old hotel beds!) and the staff got them at the same price as the company did. They were limited to 5 beds per employee per year! That was a great comfy bed. I'd be looking at $4,000+ or so to replace that in Oz.

This is true re testing the beds plus OH won't lie on them in the middle of the store, he isn't an exhibitionist like me. This one is suppose to be a sleep number as well so we both have controls so if I want mine soft and hubby wants his hard we can do that.

ukchris
We bought one of those mattress that is firmer on 1 side and soft on the other, me and the other half are a bit like little and large so I have the firm side and she has the other. Cost us about £1k for just the mattress but was well worth it and its in the container coming with us.
Anika
We paid $800 for our Queen mattress, was meant to cost $1000 but we got it cheaper as it was the last one and had been the "display". It's got a latex topper and is really comfy. Our bed was free, it was my brother and sister in law's spare bed which they kindly donated to us when we moved over here. When we buy our own house and stop renting we'll buy a new bed and use our current one as the spare
