Hi 189 or 190 visa would be best suited .you do get benefits with both for children child allowance and schooling.

I have gone through an agent the process is slow and expensive it is your call on the agent ,there is enough information on this site to go it alone .Your husband will have to do what is called an ielts test English language test approx £130 at a test center .There is loads of free prep information on the web for this course plus you can purchase books online. He will have to sit a trade test about £1500

i would imagine there will be one place in Ireland I sat my carpenters test in London. There is a guy on here from a emigration company Allan collett is his name he has posted on this site many times, worth dropping an private message to him he can point you in the right direction. An agent will charge approx £2500 for their fees not related to your visa payment which will cost $3060 dollars au .You have medicals and police report to obtain also in the region of £1000-1200 all in for the four of you approx again. The time frame expect from 12-24 month to be honest the whole process is rather slow each part seems to take forever and your husband will have to submitt all his qualifications to be assessed .This is a two part process which is done one after the other ie send of your qualifications after 60 days you should have an answer then send it back again to obtain points test for work experiance .Your husband will be on restricted licence when he is there for a year .It is like being an fourth year apprentice again ,many members have posted about this and my good friend has been there for six months and struggled to get a job because of this new law that has been implemented in oz.He has obtained work but at a reduced rate because of this .I hope this is of help it is a long and expensive process not overnight by any means but it is possible your husband is at a good age to apply for the visa and ielt score required .There is another part which is the EOI which you can find information on the Australian goverment web site about

good luck and all the best

Richard

Hi there, we haven't moved yet but are going through the permanent visa application process at the moment so I might be able to help. We're Irish, visa application is for hubby as a sparks.

Check if you would have enough points to get a visa, you could look this up on DIAC or speak to a visa consultant.

For the 190 visa or the 189 visa the first step is ielts exam, your hubby can sit it in UCD, I'd recommend buying prep materials on amazon. The application forms can be downloaded from UCD's website. If he scores 7 in each part of the ielts he would get 10 points toward the visa, if he scores 8 or above in each part he would get 20 points toward visa.

second step is Skill Assessment. We went with Vetassess, there's two parts, your paper assessment (very detailed and time consuming) and then once that is approved you can book the practical exam which my husband did in Belfast, it's also offered in London if you want to fly over. If successful he will get his Offshore Technical Skills Record.

Then you can submit you expression of interest with DIAC and wait for an invitation to apply for a visa, we got our invitation for the 189 visa two weeks after submitting the expression of interest. That's where we're at now, we've submitted our application and are sorting all the paperwork.

best of luck and if you have any questions I'm happy to help,

happy new year too!

Hi guys,

I'm new to PIO, live in co. Louth and just noticed this thread.

We applied for a skilled sponspored 176 visa in June 2012 (before the introduction of the new EOI process). Before that my OH got his skills assessed by the Australian Computer Society (his job is an ICT business analyst on the skils shortage list) and did the IELTS exam in UCD. We needed the IELTS to get more points as we don't get any points for age - me 46, hubbie 45.

Well long story short - our permanent residancy visas were granted on 5th Nov 2012 and we will depart for Melbourne in August 2013!!

We did all the applications ourselves as a migration agent in 2011 (at one of those working abroad expos) told us we probably wouldn't qualify (hubbie was unemployed at the time).

We have two children aged 13 and 12 who are very excited about the whole thing. Me and hubbie are also very excited but feeling a bit daunted by the amount of "stuff" we now have to organise before August.

So, if I can help you with anything just ask and I'll see what I can do.

Regards,

Fabscouter
