techcs
Hi All, I've had my visa granted but no where in the documentation does it say to send my passport off? It does mention that some passports are electronically tagged with the Visa but it still does not say if it is mine or not. I'm from the UK with an old style passport... if that helps.. Thanks Col
blossom
No, your visa is linked to your passport number, so just don't change passports. ;-)
calNgary
After reading some posts on here id definately try and get the sticker in your passport if its at all possible. Lots of people have had issues at this end due to the lack of a sticker in their passport so its worth it IMO. Cal x
techcs
Thanks for that info. Have people actually been turned away at the airports? Col
blossom
No, it is more in oz that some people struggle. Personally I have never had a problem with using my printed copy of my visa, but some have.
calNgary
No,You wont be turned away so dont worry too much,lol.. The problems seem to arise when trying to register with the likes of Medicare etc who want to see a visa sticker. In the least print out your visa grant e-mail etc so you then have something in print with you. Cal x
NicF
I've not had any problems in Australia but I did have a problem when checking in for my flight here. For some reason the BA computers wouldn't read my passport and when they entered it manually it didn't pick up my visa. I had my grant email with me that I had printed out and they were happy to take that as evidence of my visa. It must just have been the BA system though cos customs in Adelaide were able to see my visa no problems. ETA - I didn't have any problems at medicare without a sticker and I didn't need my visa grant letter either - I arrived in July this year. WeegieDave
I dont know what part of Australia you are moving to but when I was tranferring my UK driving license to a WA license they checked my passport for the visa label so I think it is beneficial to have it. blossom
Personally I wouldn't waste the money. Medicare, Rego place, jobs, rental agents etc have all accepted print outs of my visa for the last five years! Never once even been asked why I didn't have a sticker. techcs
Great... I think I will just print off my letters etc... I read in the documentation that you can check a Visa status here https://www.ecom.immi.gov.au/evo/start.do?actionType=thirdPartyRegister so I suspect this is what the authorities and others use... Thanks all.... much appreciated.
lebourvellec
Visa labels now cost $70 for each passport in Australia, and if you wanted on from the UK you would need to contact Australia House in London and I suspect that you would only be able to get on if you were traveling through a country that requires you to have a visa label in your passport. This all changed on 24th Nov this year, before that you could just send your passports away and get a label.
