skilled indep 189 visa application - what is actually needed for the final visa application?

Hi All,

I'm applying for a skilled independent visa (189). I have already received a positive skills assessment and employment assessment, have completed my IELTS and have just submitted my Expression of Interest (EOI). I have a points score of 70. I am waiting to be invited to apply for the visa now and I know that once I have the invitation I only have 60 days to apply for the visa.

I am trying to find out what additional documents I might need for the actual visa application aside from medical and police checks and it's proving v difficult. I want to make sure I have everything ready but it's hard to know without seeing the application. I have looked online and it seems to be birth certificate and certified copy of biographical pages of passport, but I can't see that I need anything else??? Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance, I love this forum it is so reassuring!

Colour scans of original documents do not need to be certified and are accepted by DIAC.

You will get an online checklist after your application is lodged with the documents you will require.

You will need IELTS certificate, Marriage Certificate, or Defacto information, Qualifications, proof of would work experience, can be asked for pay slips P60's.

You have 28 days to upload the documents.

its taking time to get the PCC from my home country, will it be a problem mate ?

Hopefully I'll be able to send that by 2 January. Moreover My medical was referred to a specialist. I have arranged an appointment with a specialist mid of January and the specialist will need to send the assessment to Medibank Case B.

Hi Victoria

I would also be interested in the replies to your post as I'm trying to ensure we have everything ready too. However, I'm assuming that whatever question you are asked in your EOI you need to prove with documentation. Booklet 6 on the immi website helps with this.

Cheers

Lou

Hi Victoria,

I created a folder on my computer and scanned in the following (Colour scans, 300dpi, converted to pdf) :-

1) Skill Assessment - This included assessment of my occupation, opinion on work experience and formal qualifications.

2) Passport Bio Data for all applicants (including secondary/children)

3) Birth Certificates for all applicants (Full birth certs are required, I had to order 2 of these as I had abridged versions)

4) Marriage Certificate

5) IELTS Certificate

6) Educational qualification certificates

7) Letters from my employers (one from HR detailing dates/role, one from company director detailing specific job description)

8) HMRC Statement of Earnings 5yrs (The only reason I got this was because I'd lost out a couple of P60s Ring: 0845 300 0627)

9) Proof of address for applicants >18yrs (This is needed for PCCs, i.e. utilities bill, car insurance etc)

I uploaded the above once i'd lodged my application (apart from proof of address was only needed for PCCs), then once a Case Officer contacted me I obtained the PCCs, scanned and uploaded them, the medicals were all done at an Ehealth clinic so I didn't have to do anything.

Its difficult to provide a definitive list as it is specific to your individual case, for example if you have changed your name ever, you will need that certificate, if you are divorced and have children you are taking you will need proof of custody for children and consent from non-migrating parent.

Just to clarify, I only got documents certified for my skill assessment as my assessing authority required this, I also got the passport and passport pic signed/certified for PCCs. The remaining documentation I haven't had certified as it is not required providing it's a colour scan ( http://www.immi.gov.au/skilled/general-skilled-migration/further-information.htm )

Hope this gives you some idea, also :- http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/index/checklists/189-applicant-checklist.pdf

Good luck

Thank you so much that is massively helpful - it answers a load of other queries I had as well (like what do you do if you have lost a P60!). I'm doing my application without a migration agent (couldn't afford it :o() so I have to be doubly careful!

One question remains - what is PCC please?

Hi mattybe - are you sure that Full Birth Certs are required? I seen this in the docs checklist:

Documents to prove your identity—a certified copy of your birth registration

showing the names of both parents. If a birth certificate is not available, you

must provide a certified copy of the identification pages of at least one of the

following:

• passport

• family book showing both parents’ names

• identification document issued by the government

• document issued by a court that verifies the person’s identity.

If you are unable to provide one of these documents, you must provide other

acceptable evidence that you are who you claim to be.

Thanks

Brian

Hi Brian. I had to provide them as I have two children on my visa. This proves that me and my wife are their parents etc etc. I guess if you are a single applicant and you dont have a birth cert then the other alternative methods listed on the checklist are suitable.

Hi all,

I have submittef the application on 30th and on the Sam day, I received an email from DIAC requesting quite a lot of information, most of them I can manage but have a few questions want your help please:

1. DIAC asked for PCC and medical check, from some other threads I learnt that these are requested once a case officer is assigned. Is my case too early? Should I arrange the PCC and medi now?

2. Is every supporting, including PCC and medi has to be submitted within 28 day? In my case, 28 days from 30 Dec 2012?

3. I am not claiming my OH's skills, why DIAC is asking my OH's skill assessment?

4. My girls are 4 and 1.5, but DIAC is asking for the proof of their language ability, is that normal?

5. I am not applying my father in the same visa, just provided info when I filled in the form, now they asked his checks, is this normal?

6. If for the irrelevant supporting, should I just skip or write DIAC an email to clarify? But I don't have a case officer yet.

Many thanks.

Wait until you get a CO for Medicals and PCC this is normal to do this and if from HR country this is a must.

Have you put your father down as a non-migrating dependent, as if you have this will be why you have been asked for medicals and pcc, you should fill in form 1023 incorrect answers and change this to other family members. If you dont there is a one fail all fail rule with medicals.

Ignore 3 & 4, your CO will ask for any extra documents if not provided in the 28 days per 2.

Hi Lebourbellec,

Thanks very much for your helpful reply.

Yes you are right that i had put my father down as a non-migrating dependent, as he doesn't want to migrate with us. I am not sure if I had filled in the form incorrectly that's why these evidence were requested. With such, can I check the submitted form and correct the information as necessary? How should I do that? Is that what you meant by filling in the 1023 form to correct it? Sorry I have lots of questions but really appreciate your advice. Thanks again.

Hi Mattybe - once you have applied for the visa online and uploaded documents do you then have to send anything in the post? I find it strange that they wouldn't want the originals/certified copies at the DIAC. I'm just trying to work out if I need anything else as a few of my original documents (like work references) went to my assessment authority. I have colour photocopies for everything, but not sure if I need another original for the DIAC once I've applied for the visa. Please can you help (again!). Thanks

Victoria

Hi. Colour scans of original documents is fine. If they are not colour then they can be black & white but must be certified.

I have not physically sent anything off to Diac, it has all been done electronically. My skills assessment was all done by sending paperwork off.

Hope that helps

For Mattybe...

My understanding is that on applying for the actual visa you upload colour scans of all your documents, but is there any requirement to then send in any original/certified hard copy documents afterwards or at some late date? I find it a bit odd that the DIAC would not want any hard copies, eg I am concerned as some of my original documents like employment references went to my skills assessor so I don't have them. I have colour photocopies of everything but not the originals. Is this likely to be a problem? I think I have originals for everything else. What do you think?

I'm just trying to get everything lined up as I submitted my EOI and I've just seen the results for Dec and they have called a lot of people on 60 points and 65 points (I have 65), so I might get the invite on Monday! eek! My blood pressure can't take all this paperwork! If I had the extra money I SO would have paid for a Migration agent!

Thanks again for the hel,

Victoria

Hurrah! I have received my Invitation to Apply - I only submitted my EOI 4 days ago! I'm shocked - in a good way.

I've had a look at the invitation - there is a button that says "Apply for Visa" - I want to hit this button so I can read through it but I'm too scared in case I have to complete everything in one go!!!! If I do hit this button - will there be an option to save a draft application so I can browse and check I have everything then come back to it? Or once I open it do I have to be able to complete it? I know it probably sounds like a silly question, but these visa requirements and procedures are so ridiculously strict I'm petrified of making a mistake! Cheers Vic

hi Mattybe - ok so I've completed everything I can on the online visa application, but I can't find anywhere to upload any documents and it's not telling me to at all. I really need to upload a covering letter to explain one of the items also (and the DIAC told me to do this), but I can't see where I can up load them??? Do you get asked to upload the documents after you have hit the "submit application" button?

I'm so sorry for all the questions....but will certainly like to by you a drink or 10 in the future to say thanks!

  • 7 months later...

Hi! I'm quite new here. Regarding this VISA, How long does it take before you get an reply on your EOI? Also, does it require the IELTS to be very recent? How many years is it till your IELTS certificate expires?

Is 189 visa best suitable for a nurse without much experience. I only have, like, 7 months experience as an RN and a year as a phlebotomist.

Hope anyone can help me on this. Thank you! :D
