checking out perth

Hi all,

We have decided to have a trip out to perth in feb to have a look about while waiting on the visa process.

We would like to see as much as possible in the two weeks were there, weve been looking at joondalup and alkimos as places we would be interested in living when we emigrate.

Would appreciate any tips on where to stay on holiday and the best places to see and what is possible to do in the two weeks.

Thanks, nancy

We live on the border of butler and trinity Alkimos , it's all cracking up here , Shorehaven , Anberton to Yanchep , it's going to be a new city. Be aware on this site of negative and positives Peeps going back to the uk obviously have a negative view , where are your work prospects

Hi Nancy & Paul, look up holiday rentals in Joondalup. The areas you are interested in moving to are still in developmental stages, joondalup is near enough to allow you to explore these areas whilst providing a good base /transport links etc to enjoy your holiday in Perth. Joondalup is 'supposedly' the second city in Perth and many who live their have no need to venture south towards Perth city as there is everything you may possibly need closeby, not forgetting some amazing beaches!

Things to see & do...Kings Park is a must! I love to go around sunset, pack a picnic & take in the views over the city. But the park itself is huge, lots of different areas to explore & BBQ spots too. If time & budget permits, rottnest island is a great day trip. If staying in joondalup you can get the ferry from Hilary's boat harbour. Outdoor cinema is brilliant & held at around 5 venues throughout Perth in summer months. Penguin island, can get there via train all the way from joondalup. Fremantle, great day out...kinda like Scottish day trip to Saltcoats etc lol, only much better. Great bars & fish&chips out there. Swan valley wine tour is soo good & very beautiful. Check out any captain cook tours that may be running on the swan river. & even a BBQ at south Perth with the city skyline. I find the best days out are picnics & bbq's. be sure to see as many beaches as you can take in. Also, as you are going up towards Alkimos etc, you may want to go to Moore river, lancelin, pinnacles. Should be a great reccie whatever you get up to.x

I'd echo Nats choices plus:

Cavesham wildlife park to feed the roos,

Fremantle Prison tours (all our visitors have enjoyed this)

Take a cruise from Perth to Freo

Mandurah and do the canal tour

Swim with Dolphins in Rockingham

Kings Park - worth a visit day and and night - stunning views

Cavesham will only take you half a day to get round, so either take a picnic and stay in Whiteman park or carry on further into the Swan Valley for lunch - the Mash Brewery offers a nice lunch and there are also other vineyards and the chocolate factory.
