Guest Mrs Fast Twist
Hi We are going to Perth next month and we've had a big dilemma with our dog, who is 12 (a very sprightly 12!). We were going to start the pet shipping process then had an awful thought that he would be too old and wouldn't cope with the process. He had his rabies jab back in July, then we decided to leave him here. Since then we have been trying to find him a home here and have not been able to find anyone that would have him. Then we decided that as it would be a bit cooler in Perth in their autumn, maybe ship him over in a few months. My question is, he hasn't had any blood samples taken yet, if I start the process now with shipping, what would be the earliest we could expect to have him with us in Perth? We would also prefer him not to be in quarantine any longer than the mandatory 30 days. Hope Bob can help with this one...x
Galahad
Hi - I don't think you will have a problem.....if you've had the Rabies jabs done in July you should be OK to get the 'pre-flight' stuff done 30 days before the flight somewhere around March/April....but Bob will advise you more accurately..... I'm taking a 12/13 year old cat back to Australia along with two slightly (but only slightly) younger dogs.....& wouldn't dream of leaving the cat behind - she's part of my furry family.... Good luck !
Belsie
I agree with the above email it shouldn't take too long, we used the company golden arrow who were excellent and really put my mind a rest, I'm sat here with my dog now, would never have dreamt of leaving her its so worth it. Have phoned Golden Arrow and they aren't shipping any more staffies after one died last year. We are now gutted at having to maybe give him up. They said the snub nosed dogs could be at risk from overheating at Singapore.
rob dc
From memory you will need either 120 or 150 days after a clear rabies blood test before the dog can enter Australia, speak to bob pet air to confirm, but there wa talk when I was at by ford of quarentine going down to 10 days in jan but this is not law yet just discussion

Galahad
As M2M says - talk to Bob at PetAir - there ARE other carriers (apart from Golden Arrow) .....but I'm sure PetAir will be able to help you... ......By the time your dog is ready to fly it will be a little cooler.... My larger dog is part Staffie & she flew from Australia to the UK three years ago via Singapore & was perfectly OK....in December.... She was vet-checked at Singapore airport & was absolutely fine.... Don't take 'no' for an answer !
