Kel1
Hey everyone, Merry Christmas! Faced with some choices in 2013.. could do with some advice. My bf is on a 457 (been on it for about a year) and we asked his employer about a nomination for employer sponsored PR. They filled it all out and it's being processed. We understand that he may need skilled assessed as only been on 457 for a year, the other year he has been here was on WHV. We are not sure how long it will take to hear back and know whether the nomination was ok. Basically, we are at a point in our lives where we are not sure what to do. We are not that settled here and feel like we are in limbo a little - like we know this isnt a permanent thing so we don't build a future here. We applied think we want PR due to the stability it gives, but then we find ourselves seeing our future in the UK as we miss our families. Life can be quite lonely here, and no matter how many gym clubs you join or work drinks you go to, it doesn't make up for what we lack. But, then we feel we may return to the UK because we have been gone for 2 years, th hings have changed and what if we don't find a job? What if we can't get the same type of salary? Where will we live? Our families live in 4 hours away from eachother- so no obvious choice. Will we realise what we have here and think - omg what have we done - and that we can't get back to Australia! I read about that from time to time and it scares me. We would have to pay for PR as we are the ones asking the employer to nominate and we have to jump through all the hoops to get it. Not sure if it will be worth it if we end up going home- which seems like it will happen as we miss family a lot. I think if PR was guaranteed when you applied then we would do it definitely. Does anyone know of people getting turned down a lot? It would be a lot of money to lose on a whim. We can't afford an immigration agent so would be doing it on our own. What would you do? Would you pay and apply just to have it? Or go home wondering what if?? help! x
VERYSTORMY
It's a hard one and I think it depends on how certain it is you are going to go back and what your financial position is. If spending a few grand isn't going to be a big issue, then do it as it leaves options open. But if the money is going to be needed to get you back and you are certain you are going back then why bother. If you do want to come back to Oz then you can apply for pr then. Kel1
Thanks. I think we are just certain of the fact that one day we would really like to be around family and although we love Australia in many ways - it makes us feel guilty being so far away. We went back for a visit in the summer (first time in 2 years) and it was great. We were excited to be back in Aus though. I think that is what kinda messed our heads a little - we were beavering away here and it was going smoothly in our minds, and then we went home and it really hit us how much we miss out on etc etc. I'm finding this all so difficult because i remember how we felt when we left the uk and how our lives have improved so much since we came here - better jobs, better life etc - and to think about leaving that due to ultimately knowing that if we stay we will always be away from our families etc. GAH! sorry for the moan x
VERYSTORMY
I think most people go through what you have. Normal. After 5 years I still can't make my mind up. Like it here most of the time but hate it at Christmas.
