Guest The Other Matt
Hi All, First post and already asking for directions LOL My partner of 11 years (A UK Citizen) and I (Aussie Born and Bred) are early forties, living happily in Victoria, have a great house three Boxer dogs and a good life, but they have had a burning desire to move back to the UK for YEARS - even to the point of making a move a couple of years ago but had to return after a very short break as we wanted to be together again. At that time I had absolutely no desire to leave OZ, but over the last couple of years I have realized that my greed and stubbornness is stopping them from fulfilling their one true wish - to live in the UK again. To this end we have started making some plans to finish off a few things here and in a couple more years move to the UK. It really doesn't matter to me where we live as long as we can all be together. So...........my question really is I am looking for information about Aussies moving to the UK with their partners, including vehicle relocation (Yes it is sentimental, and I can not replace it in the UK) licencing transference, and everything else that goes with the big move, any help would be appreciated. Quoll
Sorry, cant help you with the car but just wanted to wish you all the best. My DH was totally against moving to UK (why should I?, then I would be depressed!) but the wheels fell off my parental wagon and he semi reluctantly agreed to move back so we could support them. He certainly doesnt appear depressed, he's embraced life in UK, discovered that the food is really good, the gyms are good, the roads are good for cycling, the garden doesnt need watering (but he does wrestle with the deer and squirrels and weeds so that it is a different approach to gardening), there are many interesting things to do within cooee of anywhere, the local community has accepted him with open arms and his wife (moi) is a new woman, no longer being shackled by situational depression. I think if you were to ask him he would be thrilled that my life has become whole again - and the other bonus is that, no longer depressed, I have been able to lose a lot of weight and regain a lot of fitness so am not bad for an old chook. I know he doesnt want to live here for ever and ever and that's fine with me, he's doing the time at the moment and I will go back to Australia with him at some stage (although life is what happens when you are busy making plans so you never know!!!) For him it was relatively easy - his mother was UK born so he became a citizen by descent when they changed the law in 2010. Getting a spouse visa now for a non EU resident is a damn sight harder than it was so I hope you can get your visa status sorted easily. Good luck!
