The park with lake is great for kids to bring their scooters and has great birds and some nice play equipment.

Handy for Seaworld.

Tedder Ave has ice cream shops/cafes for the day and (some expensive) restaurants at night.

Area is quiet with easy walk to a patrolled beach that is a lot quieter than surfers.

I guess you know Jan can be the worst time to holiday in Qld?

Affordable and just outside of town is the Vibe Hotel, pay a little extra and you can get an amazing river view.

Wotif have specials there all the time. I've stayed there a few times. It's nothing flash. They have 'studio' rooms which are self catering style with a king bed and kitchenette and a sofa bed. not great with parking though.

It's on the edge of town, but not in the centre of it all, walking distance to Cavill ave, bus stop right there for themeparks etc.

Or Broadbeach is great too. There's loads of hotels, and there are a whole bunch of nice restaurants, near malls and also on bus route to sufers and themeparks.

We are thinking of going to surfers paradise for a few days in Jan and would like to stay in a self catering apartment not in the busy area for a family of 3 ? thanks:arghh:

P.S. Surfers Paradise is the busy/trashy area - if you mean the Gold Coast don't stay in Surfers, look at Broadbeach, Main Beach or Southport. Surfers itself is a very small area but popular with partying teenagers, tatoo parlours, fast food joints, nightclubs etc, the other areas, though nearby are much nicer.
