Hi there everyone... As you may be aware, our plans were to end up in Melbourne. All that has now changed and we are going to be based on the Gold Coast. Can anyone tell me anywhere nice to start looking? We need somwhere good for kids, family life, schools, shops etc. Any thoughts from those more experienced than us???

Would dearly love your input.

Thanks...

We live in Biggera Waters, nr Runaway Bay, bit north of Surfers Paradise. We have three kids, 4, 3 and 1. There is everything you need here; plenty of kindys to chose from (can't comment on schools as yet), theme parks, beautiful well kept public parks (the majority), and great transport links to Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. The southern end of the Gold Coast has the best beaches, the far northern end, slightly more inland, is probably more affordable as still being developed. Where we are there is Australia Fair (Southport) and Harbour Town (Biggera Waters), an outlet centre, very good. There are shopping centres in all the major suburbs. There are loads of new housing developments in places such as Coomera, Pimpama etc, where you get better value for money, and all are close to the motorway. You can't really go too wrong though; if you rent, get to know the area, you can find what you want. Any questions, pm me,

Jo

Hi we are also on Gold Coast southern end, varsity lakes. It is more expensive housing wise this end hence lots people are settling more north. Oh is working in Burleigh Heads so we needed to be close to there. We love living here, lovely parks, beaches I go to playgroup and my 3 year old does a day at kindy.

For shopping there is Pacific Fair, Robina, Stockland Centre loads of shopping places here. As for Schools mine arnt old enough, but I have rang a few to find out when I can enrol etc and they ahve been very helpful.

Live here is very laid back (apart from the driving!) and weekends are spent on the beach or parks. Yesterday we spent the day at seaworld me and the girls as we have an annual pass, hubby was at work. It was fantastic what a great day.

We also seem to have a bit of a social girly group going on at the moment and another night out is planned near end of feb time.

Hiya guys welcome to poms ,before you set your heart on a suburb id check out Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au for property prices as some suburbs down there are extortinate, especially if you want acerage. If you dont want to live right on the front have a look around Coomera,Robina they are building lots of new land estates and shopping centres.Pacific pines is inland a bit and a massive estate abit like uk living.I think the gold coast gives you the best of both worlds, beachy high rise frontage and the beautiful green hinterland, its going to be a tough choice ,good luck

Hiya, we live in Upper Coomera which is north Gold Coast. It is an up and comming area and as such you can still get some reasonably priced housing around here. We are about 12 mins drive to a fantastic beach at Labrador, the westfield shopping center is close by and we have all the usual take away's, video shops, bottle shop drive through, hairdressers, petrol station everything you need really close by. There are plenty of schools around both state schools and private. The new Coomera city center is under construction at the moment, they have just opened a Woolworths supermarket, coffee house, hairdressers, travel agency and a few others there. They have also just opened another school and there is plenty more things in the pipework. We pay $375 per week for our rental, it has 4 bedrooms, no pool though but we are literally just 2 mins away from dreamworld and white water world, we have an annual pass so go there for a cool down which is great. If you need any more info just pm me and I'll help all I can. Lisa x

We have 3 young children - 2 at school which has been great so far! Robina also has train station taking you in to Brisbane. As Em said some great bars in nearby Broadbeach!! welcome to Pm us nat

Can't thank you all enough! Was feeling like I was getting to know about Melbourne, and was not as nervous about the big move.... nicely in my comfort zone! Then, having had the rug pulled out from under us, and being told we had to go to the Gold Coast to get in, well... was a little bit scary - especially as we know nothing about the area. I now feel as though I am starting to build a bit of a picture, and it feels alot better than it did a couple of days ago. I can't believe how much I have learned from you all, in such a short space of time. You really have all become a lifeline.

Thanks, once again, everyone... Glad to know you!

Hi Andrea

We are heading to Gold Coast in about a months time. Have been there couple of times already and checked out areas too but not decided yet. My 'kids' are gonna be spending most of their time at 'Surfers' so I'm probably not gonna be much good at recommending areas for good schooling but have to say there's not many areas that aren't any good.

But, if you haven't already, have a look on Google Earth to try and get the 'lie of the land'. Type in Robina, Pacific Pines, Varsity Lakes etc.

Pac Pines is good, had alook at renting there, but we always end up getting lost; it's really big, and getting bigger!
