Lynandsean Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Hi and Welcome to Poms in Oz. I think your best bet will be to contact a good migration agent - most offer a free telephone consultation and will be able to confirm what you can and cant do relevant to your skills etc. Try Go Matilda - their MD comes on here from time to time, dont know their website address but am sure it will come up if you google it. Visa Bureau are also apparently v. good. We used Ian Harrop & Assoc who I can highly recommend Registered Australian Migration Agents, UK - Ian Harrop and Associates Good luck, Lyn
KazzE Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Hello and Sorry but I am going to state the obvious and suggest to do a search on here for agents and then take a couple up on thier free inital consultation this will give you an idea as to whether or not you have a chance and which visa would be the best to go for. Go matilda is one and I know Alan Collett comes on here sometimes and they have a website there is a load of information on this forum, I would start by having a good look around this forum and following some of the links Try to include some more information in your posts such as what your skills are age etc these are all going to have an impact on your application and you should then get replies from people who are in a similar situation. good luck:wubclub:
KazzE Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 oooo Lyn SNAP great minds and all that - spooky
Guest scot2oz Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 thanks alot for your quick response, we looked into using an agency but were quoted £3300. as it was a new thing we are not sure as of the going rates and if we are being ripped off or not. tried to make sense of the whole application procedure on the gov.au web site but it was alot 0f research to look into. If you dont mind can i ask, how long did the whole process take using an agency, and was it as expensive as our quote? sorry to be a pest

Guest scot2oz Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 hi mags, thankyou for the information you gave me. trying to read through everything and anything i can at the moment.i never knew it took so long to get the ball rolling,we are hoping to be in oz by june next year or there abouts. we have had a look at a few areas and are hoping to visit this summer to see a few more and hopefully come to a decision. we like the idea of coast life, but i suppose everyone does to start. we will end up going where the wages take us in the end. looked at cairns in a bit more depth though. god you must be excited to think any day your visas will be through and youll be off. i take it you have not got your house up for sale yet. i am kinda dreading that stage, we just moved home in may 2007 and i swore i would never do it again. let alone to the other side of the world well fingers crossed for the visa to arrive soon and hope to keep in touch. no doubt i will need a helping hand at some stage with info. thanks again , laura

Guest Gollywobbler Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Choose an Agent who charges a set fee for their own services with NO extras. DIAC & TRA fees are on top of that, as are medicals, police checks and courier charges but most agents charge less than £2000 for their own fees. Cheers Gill
Lynandsean Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 oooo Lyn SNAP great minds and all that - spooky LOL :biglaugh: As a guide, our agent charged £1600 approx for his fees. For 3 of us the total bill including medicals, police checks, actual VISA and skill assessment fees (through TRA) along with agents bill was approx £3500 Hope that helps a little Lyn xx
Guest bernie Posted January 23, 2008 Posted January 23, 2008 Hi My hubby is an electrician and the process is pretty much the same. Plumbers would be able to apply for the skilled independent visa 175 if you score 120 points. First you go through VETASSESS (VETASSESS - Vocational Education Training and Assessment Services) You apply to them first by sending in an aplication along with evidence of employment etc. Then you go for a practical assessment. If you pass this you can then apply for the visa. My husband has done this and passed so if you have any questions feel free to pm us. Good Luck! The Vetassess is probably the hardest part - we are now doing visa and is alot more simple!!
