Guest WA Bound ! Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Hi, Any info on exporting our two dogs to Oz would be appreciated: 1) What Vacinations etc 2)What company to use for the flight / How Much ? 3) Insurance ? Many Thanks Rick
DebsX Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Hiya The costs involved all depend on what breed of dogs you have. It all depends on the size. As an idea it's costing us about £2700 to fly a GSD. it worked out a little cheaper as we did all the paperwork needed, but your shippers can always do that for(at an extra cost) On top of that you have vet fees for blood tests, worming treatment and flea and tick treatment. Also you need to add on your quarantine expenses. Our shippers gave us 2 different prices, one for them to do everything, one for if we did the bulk of the work. We used AirpetUK. mainly because they are just down the road from us, but can highly recommend them. Oh and you can't book your dog onto a flight. They will only accept them if done through an agent. Obviously it isn't cheap to take your dogs, and there isn't many shortcuts to make it cheaper for yourselves either. It might be a good idea for you to phone around a couple of agents and get quotes from them, but tbh I don't think the prices vary huge amounts. There are no special vaccinations they need. Just make sure if they need thier boosters before they fly, that your vet leaves out the Lepto jab. I know it is a tough decision for some people whether to take their dogs or not. We had those decisions also (mainly for health and age reasons for my dog,) but I know we made the right decision to take him, regardless of the expense. Good luck to you and your dogs Debs x x x
Guest WA Bound ! Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Hi Debs, Many thanks for your reply ! We have 2 Daschunds which we'll be taking with us. Its going to be expensive, but worth it. Thanks for the recomendation too ! Rick

Thanks for the recomendation too ! Rick Hi Hqave you sussed your accomodation a lot of rentals don`t have pets and if they do they stress that they stay outside, we have a border collie and are in a dilemma whether to take him Malx:unsure:
DebsX Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 Hiya Yes I'm aware that our rental options will be more limited because we have the dog. However there are still places available that allow pets. We have secured temporary accommodation for when we arrive, and basically as he flys out after us we have approx 6 weeks to try and find somwhere that is happy to take him. Not going to be easy, but I'm sure doable. My saying for the week is "there are no problems, only solutions" Debs x x
Guest WA Bound ! Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 We're fortunate that we have family already settled in the area we are moving too, which would only be to happy to have the hounds for us ! Thanks for the advice though ! Rick

They took their GSD to Oz last year and it all worked out perfectly. Where there's a will, there's a way, lassie...! Cheers Gill

Thanks for the advice though ! Rick Hi Rick Wonderful dogs, dachshunds. We had two when I was a child. We lived in Malaysia and the postman used to peddle furiously up the drive on his bike, hurl the post at the front door and disappear coasting the bike with his feet on the cross bar because one of the dogs didn't like him and nipped his ankles on every possible occasion, then chased the poor man back down the drive. The other one was a Bone Burier. God knows why he didn't like fresh bones but he didn't. He used to bury them in the garden and then forget where they were. A week later, there was the dog mooching round the garden, nose down, tripping over his ears looking for the bone.... Hearts like lions though, both of them. SUPER dogs. Cheers Gill
Guest HPRYCE Posted January 20, 2008 Posted January 20, 2008 We brought our Boxer across to Melbourne, used Airpets and reckon the total cost was around £3000. So far as renting with pets is concerned it was a major worry for us before we got here but as it turned out many of the letting agents said it wasn't a huge issue(and especially if you say you are prepared to put up a Dog Bond if necessary) The house that we actually ended up renting actually specifically noted on the agents particulars that pets were welcome and we didn't pay any additional dog bond.
ali Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Hi, We brought our cat and used a company called Pets on the move because they had a local franchise. Pets On The Move and they were excellent. They collected Becky from our home and took her to the airport. One word of warning - the quarantine station at Byford isn't particularly large (compared to others) and gets booked up very early. When we first made enquiries in August 06 the first available date was for mid december - so plan ahead and book early. The staff were great and you can visit your animal whilst it's in quarentine. We had to pay a pet bond on our initial 3 month rental which was returned to us afterwards.
a&s Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Hi, we have got the ball rolling with Gloden Arrow because it is not far from us... We have been told that we may not beable to get him on a flight to Perth till May as they are all booked, but the company is finding this out... We hope to go in April so we have got to get someone to look after him... He is a Jack Russell and will cost appox £2,0000 ... But he is worth it! I thinks... Don't speak to your vet, get advice from a company that is to do the move, as the vet was trying to fob us off with info and what we should do, which would of been an extra cost... But then GA told us would we should/need to do, and they have been great so far...
Guest WA Bound ! Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Many thanks for all the info everybody ! One thing that has got me puzzled though, what is a GSD ? Rick
DebsX Posted January 21, 2008 Posted January 21, 2008 Hi Guys A bit late in replying to this. We've had the shippers in all day today. Glad that is all out of the way. I'm feeling much more optimistic now about getting accoommodation that will take my boy. Thanks for all your replies. We were fortunate that he is flying to Sydney and we managed to get him a place, even though they only had about 2 weeks notice. I do know it is a problem at some of the other quarantine stations because they are much smaller. Alex...if you want to get your dog out sooner...Have you thought about maybe booking him into Sydney then flying him over to perth. I know it's more expense and more stress for you and the dog, but it may be an option for you. I do believe some people have done this to avoid the wait. Oh and Rick...A GSD is a German Shepherd Have a good day everyone.. From a very tired woman who will be sleeping on the floor for the next 2 days
Guest AngelaCDyer Posted January 22, 2008 Posted January 22, 2008 Hi, I sent my cat out to Perth several weeks ago so she is currently in Byford and I have been told is well and already has a reputation for having an "attitude" (she was originally a street cat from Malaysia that decided to join my family and hence is pretty well travelled now but likes to remind people who is boss) After shopping around and getting very varied quotes (so def shop around) I used Airpets mainly because they were right next to Heathrow terminal 4. It cost £827 for one small cat (for the flight, special box & they did all vaccinations etc...) You pay for the quarantine separately in Oz. I was very pleased with their service and would recommend them. I arranged the quarantine separately as I heard there was a huge waiting list right now - can be up to 5months, especially for dogs, so get your pet microchipped (any RSPCA can do this on the spot), AQIS pet import approval (can arrange via email) and book in your quarantine (just call them up) asap.....then worry about flights....(I was told it is the quarantine booking that is the problem not the flights). The nice thing is that because she got there earlier than me, by the time I get there I will be picking her up 4 days later....which I am very much looking forward to...(I also have family there already to check on her). Re: Rentals. I used Realestate.com.au and have just rec'd confirmation on a rental in Sorrento, which helps (again it helped that family could view it for me and sign the bond etc..) The thing to note is that on the website it said NO PETS, but when my partner met with the agent, they said it was okay, depending on the age/profession of owners/size of animal etc...so basically it is very flexible. If they like you and think you are a responsible pet owner, you should have no problem....otherwise there is room for negotiation if you are prepared to offer a higher bond on the rental. Best wishes to you all, Angela
