Eera
what exactly are 'expression of interest' jobs?? like, if you are interest to go ahead and apply for the position?? Nope, means they doesn't actually exist at the moment but they're looking to get suitably qualified people on the books in case they turn up, note the advert was talking about a "potential project" - it basically hasn't got the go-ahead yet. Mac2405
Hi, Newbie here looking to move to Australia. I'm a coal miner based in Wales, UK. Underground qualified in development. Various other desired training aswell(FIrst Aid, Health and safety, Risk Ass. Fire fighting etc.) working in a drift mine. Was just looking for some advice on the best way to actually go about moving. Would it be possible to prehaps secure a position from over seas and then come over and sort of hit the ground running? Or would coming over on a 'holiday' with a visa for 12 months to look for work whilst out there? Also where are the main concentrate of recruiters for the mines(Perth? Brisbane? etc.). I have family and friends living in both WA and QLD so this is a visable option. Any help would be much appreciated. Mac
Eera
When you say you're a coal miner, specifically what do you do? You're unlikely to be able to get an offer from overseas in the "unskilled areas" like operator positions, the more technical ones maybe, though the industry is currently depressed with layoffs happening. Your best bet would be to hit up labour hire companies, many positions, certainly in QLD are done by contractors so applying to the likes of Rio Tinto, BHP etc will be a waste of time - these guys also employ screening companies to weed out CVs before they even see them so they won't keep yours on file for later reference, if they're not actually advertising, they won't look at spec CVs. Most of the labour hire people are based in the regional areas where the mines are, there are loads here in Mackay like Mastermyne, Precise, CoalRoc: Google will be your friend in this case. Be aware that, particularly in QLD, there are several courses you need to attend before you can even get near a mine and these can add up to several thousand $ depending on what competancies you need to get recognised
