Guest TheBrowningFamily Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Hi guys, We have sorted our life insurance, and also taken out Kinsure (as has my mum) in case of medical emergencies, but was wondering what to do about 'travel' insurance? Does any of you good folk have any recommendations for a policy which would cover us for say, 90 days and our stuff we are taking? Bit worried about having nothing in case luggage goes missing, kids are ill and can't make flight, flight cancelled etc! Sorry but trying to cover all angles!
Guest The Greens Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 If you have a decent Insurance Broker near where you live, just pop in and set it up there. Most will offer you a really good competative quote and great service, and you can save some cash. In the unfortunate case of a claim, their easy to contact, your not at the end of a phone taking one option after another and they help you with everything. I find the small local broker the best by far. Hope this helps, EMMY:smile:

Hi we have just booked with insure and go Travel Insurance UK - Cheap Annual Holiday Insurance we found them the best for us. They have different levels of cover which are all really reasonable. It worked out cheaper for us to purchase a years cover rather than a 'one trip' so check them both. You just print off your document pretty much there and then so even if you leave it til the last minute you will be covered. enjoy your trip Michelle
Guest Bells Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Hi, You just need to be careful as some traditional travel insurance policies wont cover you for a one way trip - you have to be returning to the UK. Also if you are taking higher value items such as jewellery, check the limits as a lot of travel insurances only cover a few hundred pounds. Good luck Bells
Guest TheBrowningFamily Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Thanks for the replys, will pop into an insurance brokers tomorrow!

Guest Working to fish Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Thanks for that guys, very useful info..will let Tina & Eddie know too. Hi guys What Ian, Nina and George have said in hindsight, they're probably right. We booked insurance for 4 days only, this was done over the net, and we were not informed that our insurance would run out 24 hrs after entering oz. Luckily for us, like we said, we only booked 4 days to cover our luggage on the plane mainly. Once we arrive we are going to be taking out medicare cover straight away to obviously cover our health. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and we now wish we had put a little more thought into this to cover ourselves/belongings for a little longer. So thanks Ian and Nina, i too wouldn't recommend this policy. Eddie and Tina Sorry Lisa and Dave, you didn't book with them, did you? :wubclub:
Guest TheBrowningFamily Posted January 19, 2008 Posted January 19, 2008 Not yet, We just looked at another policy aimed at people emigrating who cover you for upto 12 months... But the max cover for belongings is £1250 and they don't cover cash! The other reason we were looking for insurance was in case the kids were ill and we could not fly, (you know what there like!) But they won't cover that either as we did not take it out when we booked the tickets!!! Seems like you did'nt do to bad after all, I'll speak to Dave tomorrow and see what he says, may pop back to the travel agents and ask him what they can offer.
Guest zippy77 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Hi people... I moved out to Sydney in October in a complete whirlwind and following my Dad's advice that I couldn't take out normal travel insurance when migrating to Australia because I was only travelling one way I had to do a bit of research [and a lot of googling which I didn't really have time for!] and so found Go Walkabout [Simple Travel Insurance, Annual Holiday Travel Insurance, Backpacker Travel Insurance, Online Travel Insurance &: Worldwide Travel Insurance] They provide low cost travel insurance for people migrating, on a gap year or backpacking in OZ. You can get a variety of cover for up to 21 days I think for people emigrating. I took a 5 day cover for around £25 if I remember rightly. This covered all my luggage, flight delays etc plus gave me health cover for the 5 days too which is useful when you are in a new country and going to medicare to get registered is not on your top ten list of things to do! They cover you to your final destination so is good if you are doing stop overs on the way out here. Even better was that my laptop was also covered as a seperate item which is not something that you always get cover for. The guys I spoke to were really helpful, had done the flight to Oz several times and could give loads of advice. They emailed me the documents and I had the hard copies through the post the next day too [which was lucky as I was flying the following day!]. Having spent hours searching for the right cover and trying to understand all the small print and the ifs and buts, Go Walkabout offered in my opinion the best value for money and the right level of cover which many other brokers cannot seem to match. Hoping that saves some people hours of google time, leaving more time for all that packing! Good luck! WWW.GO-WALKABOUT.CO.UK
buckbuchanan Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Something which you pointed out that is very important is that most travel insurance policies will not cover you. There is no point in taking out a travel insurance policy from the normal insurance providers because as soon as you try to claim they will not pay out. I have phoned a few of them this morning and they all say that in the policy wording "your trip must start in the UK and end in the UK". Trust me - if an insurance company can get out of paying they will do (I used to work in insurance). Has anyone organised insurance through any other providers?
