Hi, I'm just trawling through all the medical insurance info and trying to get my head around it. I can get heealth care through my company when I arrive in Oz but I think this will be applied for when they sort out a tax code etc and apply any exemptions.

In the meantime I would like to know what others have done and if there is any basic cover when you first arrive or did you take out insurance in UK?

Thanks

You will have immediate basic medical cover through Medicare anyway because you are a Pom and there is a reciprocal arrangement. This covers any necessary medical treatment and all you will pay is the gap of the doctors fee plus the cost of any medicines. It wont take long to get private medical organized anyway so apart from the usual travel insurance which you would no doubt be taking out anyway to cover any loss of baggage etc on the trip, you probably wouldnt need anything else.

Hey thanks Quoll, theres so many little everyday things you just take for granted. You think youve got to the end of your checklist and someone asks you a question and off you go again tracking down the next load of info-will it ever stop??????
