Guest maxxangel Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 My OH wants to get a job before going out and is applying at the moment. I am sorting out getting the house on the market now. Once the house is sold I would like to go out to Oz job or not, but OH isn't so sure. I think he may be more likely to be considered for a job once he is there anyway. What are other peoples thoughts on this? Cara
Guest Liam Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I applied for over 200 Jobs before I got out here and was brushed off on 99% of them and otheres said contact them on arrival. Once I got here I got interviews on 3 of first 5 applications and was offerred a job in one of them. I seriously believe unless you are in a occupation in very high demand that you are better off coming out for 4-6 weeks and doing the rounds of the job agencies and local papers where you want to live. People still want to see you face to face before committing to hiring you Lima
gilliantay Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Hi Cara, I am a nurse and have been offered work in both Queensland and NSW. As we really want to go to Victoria, I am happy to wait until we get there, get settled then start to look for employment. Yes, it would be nice to have the security of having a job waiting for you but hey we are all different. God luck in whatever you decide Gill
calNgary Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 we found it very difficult trying to secure a job from the uk,however once we here and could ''apply in person'' we both got **** a breeze!good luck Cal x p.s ,does anyone know why J O B S is being starred out like a naughty word ,,??
Guest monty Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Hi Cara, We have been here 9 weeks now, I managed to secure work prior to leaving the Uk but don't start until begining of Feb. (nursing). OH, Paul is a brickie and didn't secure anything prior to leaving the Uk, has made a few phone calls this week and has got a start in 2 weeks time. Basically when we sold our house we decided we had enough equity to take some time back and genuinely feel we needed it. So glad we did; feeling very relaxed now and we are both looking forward to starting work. I realise we are very fortunate and have **** that are high in demand so probably haven't felt too pressured. I t all depends what sphere of work you are in and whether you would have enough equity to take a break. As other peeps have already said it usually comes down to face to face contact in the end. IMO in comparison to everything you go through to obtain a visa securing employment is relatively straightforward!!! Good luck Monty
Guest monty Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Cal I don't know why the word **** is starred out. I didn't use the word Blow prior to it Honestly!!!! Montyx
Guest billy braveheart Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 i too was told that IF i got here i would be employed no problem, and i had contacted at least 250 prospective employers prior to leaving the uk didnt help as i needed an employer to sponsor me first tho, and they were very reluctant to do that ,but i managed to find a company that would sponsor me on a 457 and now they have offered me a permanent position and we are applying for 856 pr visa dont give up just wait till your here you will pick up plenty of work
calNgary Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Its a problem on the site i have notified tim ,but when you write J O B S it stars it out ,i think the swearing machine has gone gaga, lol! Cal x
Guest maxxangel Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Oh dear, I seem to have started a swearing thread! Thank you for all the replies. Now I just need to convince my OH that going anyway is the right thing to do.
