Guest mandy1 Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Hi everyyone We have a current account with the HSBC and the Alliance-Leicester. We thought that we'd quite like to keep one of them open. Does anyone know if this is possible when you are living abroad. Do we have to notify them about our plans or could we just keep Stumm and switch to online statements so they wouldn't need to sens anything to our soon (hopefully) to be old address? Mandy x

Guest alliekate Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 We still have our UK Natwest Joint account open, and it is still active. We told the Manager what was happening, and Jason keeps track of it online every day. It's been no probs at all. He also opened our NAB account online before we got here, we just went in to the local branch and picked our cards up. We also use Ozforex (think that's right) to transfer money between the two. Hope that helps. Much love, Allie xxxxxxxxxxx
Guest mandy1 Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Hi Allie Thanks for that-very helpful Mandy x
Guest alliekate Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Ha ha !!!!!!!! Wish we had more money in both accounts.............. dream on, eh ? But yes, keep a Uk acount going, cos u might get BT refunds etc (erm, maybe not) that can be paid into there rather than farting around sending stuff out here. The NAB are great - highly recommend them. a x
Guest richbclare Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Hi I kept my UK bank account open to allow refunds for bills etc. Its also useful if you are planning a trip back to the UK in the future, then you can do an international transfer for a lump sum, and avoid all the fees that you would get from using you oz bank account card in the UK. Likewise, if you want to access your money easily in OZ, i would reccomend setting up a nationwide flexi-account, and putting your money in there as you can use your card for cash withdrawls without any charges. It is also well worth bringing a credit card across with you - if you want to by something on the internet for example you'll need to have one. I use commonwealth bank, who were great it getting my account set up before i moved and had everything waiting for me at my chosen branch.
Guest mandy1 Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Hi Thanks for the reply. We've been here for 4 months now & we've kept an account in the UK with a few quid in for buying pressies for the family etc... Mandy x
Quoll Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 Absolutely, kept my Coop account forthe past 30 years and never had a problem. It is ideal for when I go home for a visit - just transfer the dosh and use the hole in the wall. No fees no worry.

Mandy x Hi we have a HSBC green account, which is paper free,we set this up ready for Oz as the bank won't have to post any statements to us,they know about our plans and were fine about it,also we have a TSB account and they are ok about it too.
Guest Curlysoo Posted July 7, 2008 Posted July 7, 2008 As you already have an HSBC account open keep it open! You can use your cash card at ATM's in Oz though you WONT be able to gain access to your account from an actual branch itself ....coz its a seperate computing system. If you use online banking you will be able to get any info you need online, I informed them I was moving to Oz and that is what they advised me to do, it will also make life easier when you come back to the UK on a visit. We also have a Nat West account and credit card we will keep that open for any refunds from BT & British Gas (well we can hope cant we?) We have an account with The Commonweath Bank in Oz ..wish they were all full of money! LOL!
