HLEP! Partner 309 visa - which documents need to be certified?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

This is my first post! My partner and I have found this site extremely useful for other things, so first of all a big thank you and congratulations to anyone who's recently received their visa!

My questions is regarding getting documents certified. I have photocopies of both our passports certified, and we both have certified copies of our birth certificates. Do other documents, such as tenancy agreements, utility bills, invitations, cards and any other supporting evidence have to be certified copies as well? Or can they just be colour photocopies?

If anyone could please share with me their experience with this part of the application, I would really appreciate it.

We are applying for a 309 de facto visa, and have lived together for approximately 22 months. We are submitting the application without an agent and are almost ready to send it off.

Thanks very much!

Chris

Hi Chris,

We are also in the same boat, about to apply for our 309 visa.

I'm intending on sending through the originals of the docs you have enquired about. I've read on other posts that they get these back to you quite quickly if you enclose a return envelope. We're also including the original envelopes along with the cards/invitations etc (for those that we're lucky enough to have kept) which should show the date stamped by the mailing centre when they were posted, along with similar handwriting as I'm hoping that will give them a little more cred.

Good luck with your application. And good luck with the 9 month waiting game afterwards!

Hi Chris,

We have applied for spouse visa. Got birth certifs, passport copies, my evidence of income (tax p60s), marriage certif all certified copies at solicitor. The bills, invites, cards, photos etc all originals got sent back within a few weeks, I put in a prepaid special deliv envelope to get it all back. They scan what they need. Our application was deemed all ok.

Hi Chris

When I submitted my application we certified passport copies, a copy of the marriage certificate, birth certificate copies, our relationship statements, a sponsor statement from my husband (our financial arrangements are slightly unusual as we own our own business) and my husband's tax return. Everything else (excluding stat decs) we just included photocopies of the originals as I was sure somewhere in the official notes that it said these were acceptable and that they didn't want to see the originals. I haven't been asked to submit the originals so it seems to have been ok. To be honest though, it would have been easier to submit originals than photocopy all the pages!!!!

I have a vague recollection that there is a list of what needs to be certified and what doesn't in the application booklet....

We sent a range of certified, original and non-certified copies - and obviously Jon got his visa cos he's here now and about to become a Dad :)

Jo (Aussie), Jon (Pom on a 100 visa), Satch (the gorgeous viscous labrador) have now been joined by Siena Rose.

Does anyone have a spare instruction manual for a baby girl?

Hi all,

Thanks so much for the responses so far!

I think we will probably go with just submitting the originals of invites and bills etc, as we will include a pre-paid envelope for return. I'm just disappointed that the processing time has increased as it has.

Good luck to you all who are awaiting your visa being processed, and best wishes to Jo and Jon for your newly expected family member!

I will let you all know how we get on!

Thanks,

Chris

You don't have to provide them but it can help if you are the sponsor (ie the Aussie) or wanting to show income that goes into an account for you both or some such.

My husband included 2 years worth of his salary slips as the sponsor. He is the main earner in our marriage due to me only working part time. This was then reflected in our supporting statement letters as to his supporting the family etc and in the bank statements I also submitted. The money was shown going into our account and matched the amount his salary slips showed etc.
