Guest Tom the Pom Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 What is the best thing to do when you first arrive with regards to what address you use for tax and driving licence, etc. Can you get box number or something or don't they do that sort of thing in Oz? It's just that the first place you lay your hat isn't going to be your permanent address. Help and suggestions welcomed:smile:
The Broughtons Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Hi Tom, I know it may not help you very much but we were staying temporarily with my uncle and so used his address for everything. The tax was easy enough to change the address with, just a quick phone call. A visit to the bank changed the address for our account and you can change your address online for a vic roads driving licence, they then send a little sticker to go on the back of your licence card. Guest Working to fish Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Will a PO number be OK for tax and driving licence??? Hi Tom I can't say 100% but i seem to think that i have read it previously on here in the past that people have done this. It may be worth pming Gill (mod) or maybe a phone call to your agent. We were going to go down this route but luckily for us we are now staying with Cal to start with and using her address. Like i say, not 100% sure but it might be worth spending some time going through archives on this site. eddie, tina:idea:
Guest asylon Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 I know! Yes, ring the post office in your destination town before you leave the UK, you can have any UK mail forwarded to that post office. When you arrive pop into the post office and open a post office box, they need an Australian address to open one, you can use your temporary address, we used the one for our 2 week holiday appartment. The post office continue to hold mail for you, saves you messing about changing your forwarding address with the UK post office. And yes we used the PO box address for everything, some things you wern't strictly supposed to use a PO box address for but if you have sufficient ID they let you off, well, they did for us anyway. Don't stress its all pretty easy. Ax
calNgary Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 I doubt you would get an aussie licence with a po box ,they ask for proof of adress ,,i.e, rental agreement or rates bill. Cal x
