Guest Madai and Paula Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Hello everyone, Its been quite an eventful week which has seen tears, laughter oh yeah & me becoming a Nana for the first time! We finally escaped a cold & wet UK on Wednesday (9th) & flew Singapore Airlines from Heathrow to Singapore (obviously lol). I cried for half that trip partly because I've just left my children (all adults now) but mostly from relief that we were finally on our way. We were on Singapore Airs all singing all dancing new fangled double decker, which I can honestly say is the same as a 747 (in economy) except it has 2 levels. Everything went fine, (food was great, flight was great), until we arrived in Singapore. (Thats when I found out that my daughter had finally had her little boy (that should have arrived on the 7th but you know babies) at least that was good news). We should only have been there an hour & a half which we thought would give us plenty of time 2 disembark the first plane & find the gate for the second plane, but if anyone has seen the news when we got on to the next plane (another double decker) it all went wrong. Those planes are soooo heavy they need two tow trucks to push them back & alas 1 of the drivers couldn't drive. We sat on the plane 4 nearly half an hour going no where but being kept up-to-date by the captain. Finally they managed to locate enough busses (well they used 2 & did several trips)to get us all off the plane & we found ourselves back in the same departure lounge we had not long left wondering if we would ever get here. That plane should have taken off at 20:30 & we were finally in the air again, back on the plane we'd left the UK in, about 01:30 so by the time we arrived in Sydney we'd missed our connecting flight here. Oh yeah & shortly before we took off they informed us that our cases were still on the other plane & would have 2 follow us later. Singapore reps met us all off the plane & anyone who had missed flights were dealt with on the spot. We found out that the next available flight to Tamworth was at 07:35 the next day & they arranged for us to stay in a very nice hotel at the airport with meals included. We decided to take the opportunity to refresh although we could'nt change our clothes. We were hoping, after a good nights sleep, we would arrive at the airport to find our cases were there & we could fly here together but again no. We arrived early Saturday morning but our cases didnt arrive till nearly 9pm Sunday!!! We have now completely arrived! :jiggy: However, through-out it all I never once panicked or worried that it was all coming undone. I did worry at the amount of time we had to spend in the sticky, humid heat of Singapore but thats it. Singapore Airlines have been great, everything has been arranged for us without having to do a thing & they gave us a budget of $200 each for clothes, toiletries etc. to tide us over & they have been at the other end of the phone to chase up cases all weekend! I will fly with them again. So here we are covered in sunscreen & baking. (can I cope with this heat?? I think I'll survive lol) But we're here & so are our clothes (at last) & life is looking great at last. Thanks for listening Paula :spinny: PS can anyone tell me what that buzzing noise is that comes from the trees. It gets quite loud & goes on all day but I can't see anything up there???
KazzE Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Hi Paula, what an eventful time you have had and you still sound so positive:yes: We have flown Singapore before and I would recommend them anytime, the airport is good for transiting too, nice showers etc All best for your new life in Oz :wubclub:

Mr Wotsit Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 Hi there, the noise your hearing is probably from cicadas. you'll get used to them after a while. a real sound of the bush.
Guest Madai and Paula Posted February 1, 2008 Posted February 1, 2008 Hello All, Thank you, Thank you, Thank You. All of the people on this site are soooo welcoming & helpful. We had gathered so much info off here before we left & are still getting more info now we're here. I have now seen one of those Cicadas & there must b hundreds of them because they are everywhere (mind you they do sound a bit water-logged after it rains lol). Thanks for you congrats as well. Mother & baby are now home & all is well from what I gather. Thanks again Paula

Thanks again Paula Well if you have seen the little blighters that are making the noise - the big ones with wings are cicadas and the skinny little runts with big long back legs that stick up are grasshoppers! Noisy little things arent they?! Congratulations on joining the band of grandmothers!!! Great feeling isnt it?
