Guest Phillippa5073
Hi, I lived in Sydney for a year from 2010 - 2011 and used up my working holiday visa in that time. I want to go back to live there and plan to go back on a 6 month tourist visa, live with family I have there and hopefully find work with a company who will sponsor me on a 457. I heard that it might not be allowed to look for work on a tourist visa? But does this apply even if you genuinely are not working when you're on the tourist visa? Should I get offered a job and get a 457 - can I stay in Aus while this gets processed or do you have to leave the country? Can you go straight from tourist visa to a 457 whilst living in Australia? Thanks!
Abbi13
why don't you just get a working holiday visa that will last you 12 months, work for a company and if they want you permanently get sponsorship from them and apply for permanent residency after 2 years? Tickled Pink
Because she has already used her one and only working holiday visa in 2010.

Yes she cleared this up in the first sentence! OP - tourist visa does not forbid interviewing / seeking employment, but you can not travel to Australia on a tourist visa with that intention alone. Joanna82
I would also make sure to mention this very clearly when applying for jobs, otherwise potential employers might contact immigration and you are on the next plane home with a 3 year ban. Other than that, nothing wrong with what you describe. You may get a "no further stay" condition on you tourist visa, which would require you to leave before being able to return on a 457. Abbi13
yeah i know but i thought you could reapply?
lebourvellec
yeah i know but i thought you could reapply? You need to have done the 88 days regional work to re-apply. To the OP, with 6 month Tourist Visas, there can be more of a chance the No Further stay condition will be attached to your visa. Also if you are found to be entering Australia with CV's Certificates, transcripts and work references, this can show immigration that you are not a genuine tourist, and can be refused entry at the border. What kind of work are you looking to get sponsored in??
blossom
Yes, the type of work you want to be sponsored in is very important as you can't just get sponsored for any job.

Guest Phillippa5073
Hi all, thanks for all this. I work in the music and arts / events industry so I would be looking for jobs in that sector. I have a few contacts from when I worked there the first time around so I would be hoping to find employment through those channels, although I know it's not going to be easy. If I do end up getting a job that will sponsor me and I get put on a bridging visa - are you allowed to leave the country in that time? How long does a 457 take to get processed? Thanks
