Is it normal/expected to have doubts etc just before emigrating???

Hi all,

W are due to fly in 6 weeks to Perth. We are getting very nervous, sleepless nights to name but a few worries!!

Is it normal to have doubts if we are doing the right thing so soon before we fly? We talk about friends and family, jobs, renting our house etc here in the UK. We still have alot to do, sell 3 cars, trips to the tip, bootsales, tie up all the loose ends, finalise renting the house out etc etc......

How did you feel just before you were leaving the UK and did you have doubts, panic etc....

We still want to do it but we are scared it may not work out, most of all i think it's creeping up very fast that we have to say goodbye to friends and family. Something we are not looking forward to at all but there is nothing we can do about it, but just to try be strong and once we are on the plane, try and think about our new adventure.

Look forward to any reassurance you can give me please.

i am going in 17 days leaving my sons and no i have no family there.. its an adventure as far as I can see! I have a job and have made a few friends from here and I have a couple of people i know spread across australia.. I feel panic and guilt and excitement all in a minute! its a rollercoaster but i know its the right thing to do and I have no rose tinted glasses, have things in uk if i need to/want to come back...final bbq this weekend to say see you to my elderly father.. I will be back to visit and i am going to australia not the valley of death ( although some people make it sound like it!) I think i have many more tears and smiles to come yet.. good luck and if i can be of any help just shout :D Marion x

Yes it's perfectly normal. I'm going in 6 weeks too and leaving behind my 19yr old daughter and the rest of my family. I'm travelling alone with my 4 yr old and going to a friend i haven't seen in yrs. I feel sick at times, violently sick.....but as already said you should treat it as an amazing adventure and what's the worst that can happen? You'll just get on a plane and come back if it's that bad. Don't worry, enjoy!

Wishing you all the best!!

Our flights to NSW are booked for 15th October, I will be leaving my 3 kids and one granddaughter and every time I think about saying goodbye I feel sick ,but at the same time I am so excited and can't wait to start our new adventure, I think mixed emotions are perfectly normal, however I so want this...good luck to everyone who is about to start the best adventure of their life xx

Yes - it is quite normal.

Afterall, you are dismantling your current life, bit by bit, in the hope that you will build something different, possibly better, when you get out here. There are some things you will never be able to replace, and there are somethings you will get that you will never have where you are now. You will learn things about yourself that you may never have done otherwise. It may take you years to settle, if at all, and it may take you 5 minutes.

Whatever happens, don't confuse 'the cost' with 'the value' of what you are doing.
