What to expect at the airport? Emigrating on Thursday!!!! :)

This may a bit silly, but what should we expect when arriving at Perth International Airport?

 

We arrive on Saturday night at 23:55 into Perth on a temporary regional state sponsored visa (475), and I just want to make sure we have all the correct paperwork with us etc as I keep waking up in the middle of the night worrying that we'll get there and realise we've forgotten something really important!

 

I've got our visa grant notice letters and passports (obviously!) but is there anything else we should have to hand?

 

Do we get taken aside to a separate area and have our passports stamped and questions etc, or is it straightforward in we go and check in with the state once arrived after the weekend?

 

Also, our accommodation is in Butler, which is quite a way from the airport. Does anyone suggest a taxi at that time of night or are we better off getting a cheap (ha ha) hotel and getting a cheaper alternative the next day?

 

I hope someone can answer or advise me as I'm in a bit of a panic here with just 3 days to go! We stop over in Singapore overnight on Friday!

Hi Lucy, when we arrived it was very straight forward. The ozzies are very laid back he looked at our passport and asked if it was the first time we were arriving, they will ask if you have any food or medication and if yes just declare it on our form you have to fill in on the plane. You will be fine I remember it feeling very daunting but relieved I was there.

 

Also with your flight arriving so late I would suggest a hotel, as a rule for us if family/friends are arriving late we won't pick them up because it is too dangerous for us on the freeway or highway as kangaroos are hoping around mid morning it is much safer to stay in a hotel freshen up and go to butler the next day also a taxi that time of night will be extortionate.

Thanks for that info!

Now the medication is a whole other matter! I'm going to have to start looking up my meds (inhalers and sleeping tablets!!) and check whether I'm allowed to bring what I have!

After that flight get your head down and get yourselves together,next day take it all in its stride, good luck. p.s Dont worry about the papers etc, they dont ask anything,its all on the computer

Good Luck with the flight - everything is electronically linked in your passport - so will just be a case of going through immigration. But having the printed out copy will be good but wont be necessary to show at immigration.

 

There is a hotel shuttle bus from Airport to hotels, you can get it just outside the terminal, cant remember how much it costs. Ive stayed at the criterion_hotel a few times in the CBD, and gotten the shuttle bus to it. Its ok. Cant remember how much a taxi was from there to airport but it wasnt too bad.

 

We leave next Wed - arrive on Thur but get in the afternoon, we have a hire car booked from Bayswater car rental (think they also have offices in Perth), just hope our flight is not late as the hire car place closes at 5.30.
