alexandra84
Hi there!! We are moving, from the UK, to Melbourne on a perm 176 visa and will be arriving in mid December. We are really panicking though, as to obtain a rental through an agency you need to provide so much - we we won't have when we first get there, so we're thinking Private rental will be more suitable for us on arrival. We ideally need a furnished home 2/3 bedrooms, with an enclosed garden, close to public transport routes in a family friendly area. We could pay rental monies and deposit upfront and provide references. In the UK we both work full-time (my partner is a self-employed plumber & bathroom and kitchen fitter and I am a PA) iand have jobs lined up to start in January 2013. We sold our home last year and are currently renting a property in the UK. Area's that we would ideally like to stay in are: Parkdale Patterson lakes Burnside heights Bonbeach Noble park north Albert park Balwyn & Balwyn North Camberwell If anyone has anything to offer that meets our requirements or can offer any advice on where to look then please please contact me. Many thanks, Alexandra x
furkew
Hi Alexandra. if you are arriving mid december, you might find it difficult for find a permanent rental until early/mid jan due to the xmas holiday break. I would suggest looking for a furnished rental for about 5 weeks to tide yourselves over. It is unfortunately the most expensive time of year because of xmas/school holidays. I wouldnt worry too much about where it is , because you will have 4-5 weeks to look at the aforementioned areas. We have had new arrivals stay with us, and they have ended up in Gippsland, Geelong, point cook, Frankston etc which are in some cases 2 hours away. I dont forsee you having any problems getting a long term unfurnished place. Many new arrivals dont have jobs on arrival, but if you can provide evidence of enough funds & maybe references you should be fine. If you are shipping furniture, you could try to time it that it arrives at the same time as you are required to leave the furnished rental (early/mid jan) try sending Kate from http://www.moving-to-melbourne.co.uk/melbourne-rental-accommodation.htm and email to see if she might have anything suitable. Most of her accomodation is aimed at new arrivals, with better long term rates than most. other options are: http://www.stayz.com.au http://www.lastminute.com.au Cheers Paul. alexandra84
Thanks, think we might have found something courtesy of Kate at Moving to Melbourne. It's all pretty expensive, so just having to suck it up!! Cheers, Alex.
starlight7
I think the areas you have selected are about the most expensive in Melbourne so you will be paying top dollar. How important is it to have those particular areas? They are all pretty nice areas but there are other areas just as nice and half the cost. Ken
Furnished long-term rentals are extremely rare. You're better getting a short term rental from somewhere like stayz.com.au or airbnb.co.uk (the latter we used and I'd highly recommend. For longer term rentals rent is paid monthly).
