LostMyWay
Hello all, Please can someone point me in the right direction. My employer has just nominated me for PR under the new ENS Direct Entry Stream. I am currently in Australia on a 457 working as a nurse. Please can you tell me whether I need to sit a skills assessment and an IELT? I originally came to Australia in Jan 2010 on a 457 and left in Nov 2011 to return to UK, I then returned back to Australia July this year on another 457 under a different employer. I have spoken to immigration and they have advised that I apply under the Direct Entry Stream however they told me to contact ANMAC (Australian NMC) to ask them if I would need to complete a skills assessment. ANMAC have told me that it is immigration who should be advising me of this not them!!!!!! I qualified in UK 4 years ago and have been a registered division 1 nurse in Australia for about 3 years and have 2 years work experience in Australia just not with the same employer, am I exempt? Also do I need to take a language test? I know other people in my situation who have not needed to do a skills assessment or English test however this was before all the new changes!!! Going out of my mind here...Immigration I think have tried to make things clearer but just seem to have confused me even more!!!!!! Any knowledge would be much appreciated! Also with the recent changes are the medicals and police checks still valid for a year? Thanks LMW

lebourvellec
I would speak to a registered migration agent to be sure. But yes - you will require a positive skills assessment from ANMC to be able to apply through the direct entry stream. Ans you will likely need to sit the Academic IELTS and gain 7's to be able to get a positive skills assessment. You also need 3 years on work experience for the direct entry. If you can to go do the transitional stream, as of 1 July, you require to have worked for your sponsoring employer for 2 years to be able to apply without requiring a skills assessment.
