steve gil
well i arrived in uk<dewsbury> 8 days ago convinced i was ready to move back after 12 years in perth. i still think uk is best country in the world but not just at the present time. i have bought a 2 bedroom apartment in an old converted textile mill and already secured a tennant on a 12 month lease so thats all good.some things i have found bad like speed cameras every where and lack of jobs <or well paid jobs> i would have to go back offshore to make a decent wage and was trying to avoid that. im not racist but some areas of town seem to be turning in to ghettos and need a damm good clean up . i dont think the uk is as cheap as people lead me to believe i would say when you compare wages and prices its about the same cost of living as perth .i love the better choice of food in the supermarkets and my daughter says theres more choice in the clothes shops but about same price.things i love the yorkshire dales green country side talking to the milk man getting to see familly and friends again. the biggest negative for me is people are not smiling or happy so we are returning to perth middle of september and waiting until things pick up over here but will be be coming back full time in the future. ali
Congratulations on getting the apartment and securing the tennant Steve. I think trips back to the UK certainly help people make a plan of what to do - return for good, head back to Aus or in your case defer the moving back for a while. Guest Guest63690
Steve, just a little thought from me. When I first went abroad, I went to Crete. I was 24 at the time. When we first arrived, I noticed all the shoddy building work going on in the resort where we stayed. I noticed it wasn't as sunny as I had thought it would be, and it was disappointing. By the end of the two weeks (and you haven't even been back that long), I stopped noticing the building sites, and noticed the smell of the Jasmine instead, and we were having fun as a family sunshine or not, so that stopped being an issue too. It was one of the best holidays of my llfe. I think what I am trying to say, is that in the beginning, when you first return, you might really notice the 'bad'. But if you live in the UK day in and day out with no thoughts of leaving, you just end up living. Not scrutinising, just living. And when that happens, things fall into place. I love living in the UK and I am sure when you are ready, you will too.

Only you will know "when" or even "if" it's right. why do you want to move back? where is it going to benefit you or your family? Start with an end in mind, so to speak? Bottom line is your heart has got to be in it, or it wont work! (same as moving from Uk to Oz) After 12 yrs it will be like re-emmigrating, in that you have to be ready to make a commitment for a period of time & have a plan of what you want from it, really is like starting again. There has to be a number of benefits to the move. It also depends what life you left in Perth & what/where you return to in the UK. We returned after 10 yrs, to a new area (well researched on the interent & somewhere we were enthusiastic about) If we had of returned to my old village, I would have been very disappointing & probably on the next plane back. Went back for a day a couple of weeks ago, Is not as I remember it, looked tired & rubbish over the recreational park was disappointing. (to be fair, it is sandwiched between x2 big towns & on outskirts of London so was inevitable that it would swallowed up in that!) Good luck with whatever you decide. Only advice I would offer is try not to judge the whole Uk on one area (we are all guilty of that, me included!!)
