I will soon be immigrating to Western Australia on visa 475. When should I get health insurance? Do I buy it online before landing in Australia so that I have a cover from the moment I land, or do I buy it within a few days after landing? What is the best way? Thanks

I had to have my health insurance before I landed but Im on a 457 visa and needed to have it. There are numerous sites but I joined IMAN as well as enrolling for Medicare, costs $150 a month for me and my wife. I would suggest you get it as you just never know, I work in an office and teach and two colleagues have both used the ambulance and hospital in the last month and are glad they had the cover, on the other hand two others have not bothered. If YOU CAN AFFORD IT GET IT. I am sure there will be some info on here if you put it in the search engine at the top right.

We used Go Walkabout for travel and immigration insurance. It covered us for about 8 weeks including the first month in Oz even though we weren't "travelling" by then. There's such a lot to do in the first few weeks we didn't want the hassle. DO register for Medicare though, that's the most important one.
