Petals Posted August 21, 2012 Share Posted August 21, 2012 Hi, Maffra is 140 miles east of Melbourne in the Shire of Wellington with a population of about four thousand people. Have a look at the Shire Web Site and also at Wiki where you can find a lot of information about it. Its not popping into Melbourne distance and probably a few hours travel. It will be very very different to Devon. To live there the social life probably would centre around the sporting clubs like the Footy AFL Club, Cricket Club, Tennis Club etc. Probably have to travel to a bigger Gippsland town for clothes shopping or trip to Melbourne as being such a small town there may be not much choice. Its very very hard to explain how it is if a person has not experienced Australia. Join the Life in Victoria forum there is a link at the foot of the page a lot of useful information on it. Loopylou13 Posted August 23, 2012 Share Posted August 23, 2012 Hi devon67 I live in bairnsdale, moved here almost 3 years ago from Manchester uk Its very different but I love it :-) maffra is quite a small place, very green and beautiful. There are a few shops but your only about 20 mins away from sale where there is a shopping centre, restaurants, bars etc. Nothing like the uk but manageable It really depends on what u are looking for out of your move.
