New friends on Gold Coast

Recommended Posts

Guest lbnc

Hello everyone,

I moved to the GC a few months ago with my boyfriend, and am finding it difficult to make friends. I have just started a new job so hopefully will start socialising there, but I am looking for people who are wanting to make new friends. I am really struggling with homesickness at the moment, and hate the fact my friends are thousands of miles away. I am outgoing, friendly and enjoy having a good time...oooh and a drink or two :)

Would be lovely to hear from anyone who wants to socialise!!

Natasha :)

Hi there Natasha :ssign18:

Sorry to hear you're struggling with homesickness.

There are some great folk on here and hopefully some of them may be near you.

Good luck.

Hi Natasha,

I moved to the Gold Coast the other month and am also finding it hard to meet people espesh coz I haven't got a job yet but my oh is working. We live in Coomera and love it, although I do also get homesick and miss my friends.

Where about on the coast do you guys live? Would love to meet up one day if your not doing anything.

Hey Ali,

Did you move from the UK?? We live in Mermaid Waters, so about half hour away I think!

Yeah that sounds great, I am working at the moment but can meet up on my days off or in the evening??

Did you want to send me your number, it might be easier to chat that way

Natasha :)

Hi Natasha,

I'm moving to the Gold Coast in November with my boyfriend also.

Getting very nervous now & my biggest worry is about making new friends and meeting people also!

I have a great bunch of girl friends at home at the moment, so am worried if I find it a struggle to make new friends then I'll start to miss home alot!!

How are you settling in a few months in??

Hope you've managed to make some new friends who like to socialise for drinks..! :P

Hi Kerryann,

If I'm honest I'm stil finding it difficult to settle in and make new friends. I have started working now though so starting to make friends there, just not at the socialising stage just yet haha!! I know exactly what you mean, my friends from home are amazing and tbh I think thats why I get so homesick! Do you have a job to come out too over here? Whereabouts are you moving too??

We should meet up when you get out here :)

Natasha

Hi guys,

Hope you start feeling more settled and make friends soon. I've been here for 4 and a half years and still sometimes feel lonely. Have met loads of people and do have some lovely friends but also find that some people are quite superficial. You will alsways find you have days when the homesickness kicks in big time, but hang on in there :)

Hi Natasha & steveNem..

Ahhh I know, its only 2 weeks til I fly now and am getting more and more sad at the thought of leaving all my good friends and family behind!! Thank god for Skype though (I just keep telling myself that ha!!!)

We are hoping to be in Coomera, where abouts are you??

I hear cars are very expensive over there?

And no I dont have a job to come too :-O but I hoping it wont be too bad to find one fingers crossed eek!!! But my bf has pretty much got one set up, so hopefully we'll be ok!!

Did you have your job set up before you left the UK?

Yeah will be great to meet up when I finally get out there :) I dont actually fly into Oz until 3rd Nov, as we go to Thailand for a month first .. so will have to sort something out for November if you fancy!?

Hi Kerryann,

Eeeeek...how exciting for you!! It is hard leaving everyone behind but you are right Skype is amazing!!! Facebook is too!!! And you can get cheap international calls with some phone companies too so it is easy to keep in touch! Ah okay, thats about half hour from us....we are near broadbeach!

Yes cars are really expensive over here, but I expect if you look around you can get a reasonable deal for money! Ah its good that he has something sorted....I have found it really hard to get a job but thats probably because of my visa so hopefully you will find it easier!! No I didn't have it before I left the UK, just taken whatever job I can get over here at the moment really! Is your boyfriend looking forward to it? Do you have a permanent resident visa?

Ooooh okay, lucky you!!! Yeah we will, it will be nice to meet you :)

Hi Natasha!

You'll be pleased to here the weather is is already freeezing!!! It was 6.5 degrees this morning on my way to work.. brrrrr!!! I hope its nice and sunny where you are atm?! Thats one thing I'm still definitely looking forward to is some half decent weather!!!

Broadbeach sounds nice, have you settled in with finding yourself around the area now? I'm completely terrible with navigating myself, so no doubt I'll be getting myself lost ALL the time haha!!

Ah thats not great to here you found getting a job difficult eeek! What line of work are you in, and what visa do you have? I'm a partner on my bf's 175 visa - so we'll have permanent residency for 4 yrs!

Has you bf found work ok?

If you prefer to add me on facebook, it might be a bit easier to chat than this - my name is Kerryann James .. but give me a shout if you have trouble finding me!!

Hi all, we've read over everyone's comments and thought we'd reply to you all. We are new to Poms in Oz but not to Oz. We are from the North west of England and have lived here on the Gold Coast for just over 3 years and are now settled in Broadbeach. We have some really great friends but are always keen to meet new people. We enjoy anything from nights out round town to camping weekends to barbies on the beach. We are both pretty laid back!

Always willing to help anyone new to the coast to find thier feet, both been there and know how hard it can be.

Look forward to hearing from you all

Me and the misses (both 28) moved down from Brissy about 5months and now live in Carrara on the Gold Coast. I wasn't sure if this was just for the ladies but thought I'd add a post, cos us blokes need friends too

We are both originally from Huddersfield (a great place witha great footy team J).

If you’re keen for a catch up some time and for meeting acouple more poms please PM me. would be great to meet a few more people here in Oz.

Cheers

Best thing for tradies is to go to sites and ask for work. There are loads of developments on the GC and according to the local paper there are more to come. The Building trade is hard though its not consistent work but there is stuff there (my bro is a tiler).

Giggle - we are from the North West as well!! All poms we have met here so far have been from 'down south' except for one scouser. We live in Upper Coomera

I'm moving down to the Gold Coast in November from Brisbane. Been living in Aus for 3 years now and would be happy to meet up for coffee?

Would also Suggest that all trades get a business card printed and hand it in to all estate agents. I work in real estate and although we do have our 'regulars' they aren't always available then we call who we have next on our lust. If you do a good job and don't rip them off and maybe even cheaper you could become their usual.
