Guest lbnc
Hello everyone, I moved to the GC a few months ago with my boyfriend, and am finding it difficult to make friends. I have just started a new job so hopefully will start socialising there, but I am looking for people who are wanting to make new friends. I am really struggling with homesickness at the moment, and hate the fact my friends are thousands of miles away. I am outgoing, friendly and enjoy having a good time...oooh and a drink or two Would be lovely to hear from anyone who wants to socialise!! I have a great bunch of girl friends at home at the moment, so am worried if I find it a struggle to make new friends then I'll start to miss home alot!! How are you settling in a few months in?? Hope you've managed to make some new friends who like to socialise for drinks..! Kerryann
Guest lbnc
Hi Kerryann, If I'm honest I'm stil finding it difficult to settle in and make new friends. I have started working now though so starting to make friends there, just not at the socialising stage just yet haha!! I know exactly what you mean, my friends from home are amazing and tbh I think thats why I get so homesick! Do you have a job to come out too over here? Whereabouts are you moving too?? We should meet up when you get out here Natasha

Guest millymand
Hi guys, Hope you start feeling more settled and make friends soon. I've been here for 4 and a half years and still sometimes feel lonely. Have met loads of people and do have some lovely friends but also find that some people are quite superficial. You will alsways find you have days when the homesickness kicks in big time, but hang on in there

Guest lbnc
Hi Kerryann, Eeeeek...how exciting for you!! It is hard leaving everyone behind but you are right Skype is amazing!!! Facebook is too!!! And you can get cheap international calls with some phone companies too so it is easy to keep in touch! Ah okay, thats about half hour from us....we are near broadbeach! Yes cars are really expensive over here, but I expect if you look around you can get a reasonable deal for money! Ah its good that he has something sorted....I have found it really hard to get a job but thats probably because of my visa so hopefully you will find it easier!! No I didn't have it before I left the UK, just taken whatever job I can get over here at the moment really! Is your boyfriend looking forward to it? Do you have a permanent resident visa? Ooooh okay, lucky you!!! Yeah we will, it will be nice to meet you Natasha xxx

Guest gidge12374
Hi all, we've read over everyone's comments and thought we'd reply to you all. We are new to Poms in Oz but not to Oz. We are from the North west of England and have lived here on the Gold Coast for just over 3 years and are now settled in Broadbeach. We have some really great friends but are always keen to meet new people. We enjoy anything from nights out round town to camping weekends to barbies on the beach. We are both pretty laid back! Always willing to help anyone new to the coast to find thier feet, both been there and know how hard it can be. Look forward to hearing from you all Carla and Rob x

stephaniepomroy
hello, my partner is currently on the GC Runaway bay! hes finding it very hard to get a job, hes been there 3 weeks now and nothing in the plastering trade : has anyone else struggeled gettin work within trades? xx
steveNem
Best thing for tradies is to go to sites and ask for work. There are loads of developments on the GC and according to the local paper there are more to come. The Building trade is hard though its not consistent work but there is stuff there (my bro is a tiler). Giggle - we are from the North West as well!! All poms we have met here so far have been from 'down south' except for one scouser. We live in Upper Coomera
Ayrshirelass
Hi I'm moving down to the Gold Coast in November from Brisbane. Been living in Aus for 3 years now and would be happy to meet up for coffee?
Guest claireanddom
Would also Suggest that all trades get a business card printed and hand it in to all estate agents. I work in real estate and although we do have our 'regulars' they aren't always available then we call who we have next on our lust. If you do a good job and don't rip them off and maybe even cheaper you could become their usual.
tinaowens
hi. I am also new to Gold Coast and missing friends from the uk. I have been here for 6 weeks and not many any friends yet. OH is working and children are all at school. Would love to meet up with people in a similar position for a coffee and chat.
