Guest Alice2
We are moving to oz in a couple of months time and am curious about one thing. There are many posts here about the state of sausages and bacon down under. Does anyone know why the sausages and bacon are not quite as good as the UK? It can't just be done to recipes...... ali
Depends on your taste, personally I don't have a problem with either the bacon or the sausage.
dxboz
I think that the bacon is far superior in Oz to UK - you dont get that horrible white gunk coming out of it when you cook it. Don't understand why people don't like the sausages - never had a problem with them. You get all makes, types and varieties
Rupert
I am afrad it is all true, bacon and sausages are not so good here. Well it is really the sausages that don't do it for me..
NickyNook
Bacon here is perfectly fine. I love it. Sausages I wouldn't eat here or in the UK. My dad was a butcher - he knew what went into sausages and refused to let us kids eat them. Consequently even as an adult I've never liked them. BritChickx
Dunno why just doesn't taste nice, even tried the 'english tasting' brand and it's still not the same, the bacons okay but I still prefer both in the UK. It's the same in NZ though - not keen on the sausges, maybe it's an international thing rather than an Oz thing? and don't get me started on milk in NZ lol. jhampa
you could get boerewors in coles when I was there !! nothing beats that !!! it was really good quality..... pay a ridiculous amount for that in the UK, and half the time it doesn't taste good. MARYROSE02
I had pork sausages, mash and peas in the Trinity Bar tonight for my Sunday dinner and it was lovely. I told the landlord that my mum and dad would have enjoyed it too. I don't eat bacon very much but I have no complaints about it. I could live quite happily without either sausages or bacon and there are plenty of other wonderful things to eat here. Disliking Aussie bacon and bangers, like missing English beer and pubs is probably just a symptom of not settling in here.
Bob1
bacon is fine but there's this horrible after taste on the sausages you get at sausage sizzles everywhere - i.e the cheap ones! I buy Cumberland sausage and that is fine.

What brand of milk are you using, we lived in NZ for 4 years and I never noticed anything different. The sausages are shite alright it was the casings they used that I hated. Have you dicovered cherios yet?

LKC
I like the bacon here. Most of the sausages seem to be either chicken or beef ones which I just don't like. The supermarket closest to us didn't used to have pork sausages, but they sometimes do now. I also get what are called 'English Breakfast Sausages' from the butchers which are nice. fairystar32
As both sausages and bacon are crap food then Iwouldnt worry too much. However, great sausages can be found, my kids prefer our butchers sausages than the ones in the UK they have eaten. bacon tastes better if you find the right type... I normally drink semi skimmed milk, pasteurised of course, everything over here seems to be homogenised and always tastes creamier, and if you get the light stuff it tastes too watery lol, I did find a brand that tastes good though, organic stuff. starlight7
The sausages here are much, much better than those nasty fatty UK ones. You can get all sorts of meats and all sorts of flavours from satay to sage to chilli. They are healthier than the things they call sausages over in Uk for one. Now the bacon is really good too but not quite as good as the British gammon- but you can't have everything. As a whole I think the food here leaves the British food for dead. Guest
bacon is better - sausages are hit & miss although you can get some decent ones now in woolies and surprisingly aldi had some that tasted sames as uk aldi. Or make your own !!
nickyc88
I found a great pork butcher... great sausages. Supermarket bacon here is better than in the UK, but I do miss my old butchers home cured bacon just a little bit.
