Hi,

Im currently in perth on my husbands 457. I have applied for 176 visa. The case officer will be reviewing my application on 17th august (my husband's non-migrating dependents medicals were delayed, causing a delay on my application being assessed). All information, medicals and police checks etc have been completed I am just waiting on a decision now.

Does the case officer give you plenty warningof when u need to fly out the country in order for the visa to be granted? I have already emailed and asked her this but I got a rather unhelpful response that just looked as if it had been copied and pasted out of some guidelines and it didnt really answer my question. Also i've heard conflicting advice that u need to be out the country for 5 days and other people have said u can fly outand straight back in? I was planning on going away for 2 nights.

Also does anyone have any idea of the timeframe for it being granted if she has given me a date that she is going to review it all? Im assuming it should be imminent if everything is all there?

Any help greatfully appreciated, its been hanging over me for ages and just want it all done and dusted without wondering when im going to have to fly out with my little ones.

Hi westozlou,

I reckon two nights should be enough though I have never heard of anybody leaving the shores and then getting back on the very next flight available . We are also awaiting decision on our 176. I don't think there is any standard timeframe for visas to be granted. My OH's medicals were referred and has been cleared about a month ago. Our CO told about four weeks ago that application is abut to be finalised but haven't heard back since. I'm also assuming if everything is well, we should get the visa any time now.

PS-It's really strange though how your CO gave you exact date of when he/she's going to review your application (I wish mine does the same).

Your CO won't tell you when you have to go overseas, s/he will ask you and you will provide your travel plans.

I am a little risk averse myself and would prefer to give myself more than 2 days, just in case CO off sick or something the day you leave and visa does not get granted. Also never heard of anyone turning round and getting straight back on the next flight to Australia.

thank you for your responses guys.

i had a deadline of 30th june to get my medicals done and my husbands' kids medical results must have been delayed in being sent off as they werent received until 2nd july so my case officer emailed me saying they were outstanding so she would now not review my app until 17th aug.

i was only planning on being out the country for the 3days/2 nights as my husband doesnt think he'l get time off his work. we were hoping the visa being granted would coincide with his annual leave as he is going back to the uk for a couple of weeks this month but now that there has been the delay on application his annual leave will be over as she is assessing it.

re: flying out and straight back in. I'd heard somewhere along the lines that as its all done electronically you could do this as the visa is instantly tagged on your passport and ur validating it as soon as you come back in?

Nishi, good luck I hope you get your visa soon too.
