LA Clipper
Ah, that wasn't too much fun. Went to pick-up and pay for our new TV at Dick Smith (Owned by Woolworths) and they didn't accept our ANZ Debit Card. To be honest, we're a little confused when kept being asked if we want to pay by 'Credit', 'Cheque' or 'Savings'. It seems that 'Credit' is the only thing that works - but Dick Smith said the Woolworths group no longer accepts that type of Debit card transaction due to charges. The ANZ account is our 'current account' which monies are paid in from wages, etc - so a little confused on the hassle of just paying for things. Anyone care to explain the difference in payment types from a single card?
Guest The Pom Queen
It's nightmares isn't it, you would be able to use either cheque or savings. I know we have no cheque book on our ANZ so it's savings, but on Bendigo it's cheque or credit arrgghhh
surflen22
I had the same account (I think!) and believe you can also use the 'Savings' option. You should have received a little booklet with it which explains but it will definitely work on one of the other options. There's some info here which confirms the 'Savings' option http://www.anz.com/personal/bank-accounts/everyday-accounts/visa-debit-card/faqs/
calNgary
We have the ANZ classic account which comes with the visa debit card.. I click savings when asked and use it everywhere including Woolys ,Big W etc, i also used it in Dick Smiths about 3 months ago, so maybe theyve changed the rules very recently. Guest JK2510
I remember the first time we used our card for an efpos payment and the lady said cheque savings or credit....our reply was a look of shock and a I haven't a clue.....lovely lady tried all types for us and savings it was....a little odd as it isn't a savings account?! nicolac34
Our bankwest current account has the same three options. We always press 'savings' as this then comes directly out of the account (instantly), we can also press credit if we want and this just means the amount is 'authorised' and takes a while to clear through the account. When we pay online for things it usually comes out as credit.
Slean Wolfhead
We have two accounts with NAB, a cheque account and a savings account (with the high interest). The girl at NAB just told us to press cheque and it would come out of the "current account", so we've used that everytime....she couldn't really explain it any better compared to UK accounts. Still don't know what Credit means though, although it can be used on a current account apparently !
Petals
Depends what the limit on cash is, as you are using a debit card I would imagine. Like Eftpos only certain amount allowed to be withdrawn. I remember buying a treadmill and my oh and I had to access half each to pay for it. There are a lot of things in place to protect us these days. We usually just put on credit card for any large purchase and transfer across.
