Guest matthewB
Hello one and all! I'm a 21 year old serviceman currently in the RAF. I've been in for just shy of four years and for my own reasons i am starting to have doubts whether this is the right place for me. I'm sure plenty of people would chew my arms off to get at what my friend calls a golden ticket, my NZ passport. On my fathers side, my family are already reaping the rewards that WA has to offer. It's always been in the back of my mind to utilize my passport and set-up shop in either Australia / New Zealand. Personally, i don't think i would ever forgive myself if i didn't at least give it a try. My biggest concern is that of giving up a stable career in search for something completely new. So i have a question; Would it be much of a hassle for a ex-serving UK ; NZ passport holder to get into Australia? IF i was to go, it wouldn't be for a few years yet as i am hoping to complete a degree in my own time and gain some more qualifications from service life. Hi Matt, Not sure how much of a hassle this would be for you but have you considered a transfer to the Oz RAF? You would then continue to get the quals from service life, still manage to do a degree and be 'marking time' in OZ gaining valuable eligibility time in. IIRC you only need to do a certain amount of time in any OZ forces and you automatically gain PR. Good luck.
littlegreenman
As a New Zealand citizen you will automatically be granted an SCV (Special Category Visa) upon arrival in Australia provided you have no prior convictions and you are of good character. So it would be straight forward for you to move to Australia: pack your bags and get on the plane - done. Background: Australians and Kiwis could always live and work freely in the other country. In the 80s Australia passed a law that every non-citizen arriving in Australia would need to have a visa. In order to still allow Kiwis to live and work freely in Oz the SCV was introduced. No need to apply for anything or pay anything, just get to Australia and start looking for work or do whatever else you like provided you don't have any prior convicitions. Guest matthewB
Appreciate the replies. Will have to head to NZ house in London to get my passport renewed ASAP! Just checked it and it expired a few months ago! Shocking personal admin on my count!
