Gollydolly
Does anyone know if you have a PMV processing and you go over to AU on an ETA visitor visa... Do you have to leave to go back to your own country when the visa is ready to be granted or can you just go out of AU to like New Zealand or somewhere? The application is being submitted from the US. We want to be together for Xmas so was going to go over on ETA. Would I have to leave and go back to US or could I just go to New Zealand if/when it is approved? Or would it be better to go over on ETA, leave AU to New Zealand and file from there? Other thing that has been suggested to me is to go over on ETA, then toward the end of the 3 month apply for extension (I think was e676?) get married then apply for partner visa. Idk what to do. Any thoughts? Thanks

Guest GeorgeD
Quick answer for the first question...you don't need to be in your own country for the PMV to be granted. As far as DIAC are concerned, there are only two places in the world, Australia and everywhere also. As long as you are outside of Australia then you are Offshore, so go to NZ or anywhere else you fancy!
Guest GeorgeD
More thoughts...if you go in an ETA, get married then apply onshore for the Spouse visa, you could be waiting up to 12 months for approval. You would get a bridging visa with the same rights as the visa you entered on...the ETA has no work rights, so you wouldn't be able to work for a year. The PMV gives you work rights, and when you apply for thecspouse visa your bridging visa would then also have work rights. The quickest way is possibly to get married immediately then apply offshore for the spouse visa. Processing times seem to be generally faster. You can still travel on the ETA while it is processed, but again no work rights.
