pegibson
Hi, Just wondering about all the people rushing through to get visa applications off before the new changes came in on July 1st. The old 176 visa had a processing time of up to 24 months, where as the new 190 is up to 6 months. So, does any one regret rushing through and not waiting? bearing in mind the potential longer wait.. JohnAli
Not at all as we now have our 176 visa took 5 1/2 months from start to finish including skills assessment - we could not believe how quickly everything went through ! A lot of people who rushed to file in June have their visas or at least have a CO. Damo6
Hi no thats not the case- they seem to have been pushing through all the 176's seemingly clearing them out before the EOI system kicks in.We applied for a 176 on 15/6 and had the vis granted on the 26/7. From getting Ielts and skills assessment back in April the turnaround for us all in was 3 months. Not sure if that will change once they start processing EOI (as they have stated it will affect 176's) but hopefully most of the people will be through the system by then. I bet you are chuffed! I just seen on your time scale at the bottom, CO 11/07, Meds 13/07. How did you manage to get an appointment so quick? Obviously not NHS..

I lodged in late-May and the visa should be granted soon (just waiting for the &$%^ medicals to clear!)... I started the process in February so it's been about 6 months since I lodged the skills assessment. I'd say that's not bad.
wonder
Obviously not NHS.. No, you have to pay and it's at private hospitals. I went to Spire in Manchester who had appointments for the next day, I chose to wait a whole 3 days so that I could go on a Saturday. As the saying goes...you get what you pay for. For your £260, you buy a lot of time! For info, as think this thread goes for those applying for 175's as well - I got my 175 through in 8 months, from time of skills assessment. That included 3.5 months of no activity because I was travelling too much for work to be booking IELTs etc, and then a long waiting time for the IELTs test. Introduction of EOI means that DIAC have substantially speeded up the processing of visas via the old method, so whilst EOI isn't the big scary system everyone thought it may be, I'm pleased to bits that I didn't wait. Especially as now, DIAC have full control over how many people they invite to apply in a month.

lebourvellec
The 176 visas were taking nothing even remotely like 24 months. You need to look at the 176 June thread to see how many of them have CO already. I think the only regret would be not lodging the 176, and having to go through the 190. Due to people who have been invited not able to apply till 11 Aug, the limited number of visa places which were released by DIAC for 190, the longer processing times with State Nomination, and the higher scrutiny on your application to be sure that you can prove every point that you cliamed for. What does the 11th August represent? My agent quickly got our EOI updated and up, she said to do it before the 10th of August, I didn't know why the 10th? lebourvellec
The new application system is not working yet until the 11 Aug - people who have been invited can not apply until then. The new system may be faster for Cat 4 applications once they are lodged, but it is actually slower as you have to wait for invitation - before once you had all your documents in place you could lodge your application. We had our 176 visa granted 6 weeks after we lodged. We also needed 4 Police Checks, (1 needed to be translated, and another from Oz), 2 of our medicals were referred. pegibson
My agent has sent me a link to something called "my legal office" , I have never heard of it before. It contains my EOI, is this a site where everyones EOI's are stored for DIAC to view?
SaraC
We originally lodged our Family Sponsored 176 in May 2010 and recently applied and were successful in changing it to State Sponsorship which was agreed on 20th July and we got our CO on 30th July, sent off our Police Certificate Request on 31/07 and had our medicals today, we're hoping that our visa is granted in the next few weeks. How long does the medical take? Whats involved? caugh caugh? Ok so we went for our medicals today (as mentioned above), there was me, my Hubby, our DD who is 3 and a half and our DS who is 8 months. For Hubby & I we needed chest x rays, blood tests for HIV and a medical (which was testing reflex points, checking eyes, chest and asking for medical history), the children just had the medicals and were completely underwhelmed with it, the baby giggled hysterically throughout his examination as he's soooo ticklish!! The Panel Doctor said that there was nothing to worry about (despite me having a complicated medical history) and that the medical for me *may* come back as referred but as I took all of my blood test results and letters from my Consultant with me, he could actually see that my condition is and has been stable for a while!! If you do have any medical condition, I would recommend that you take as much information as possible, the Dr actually thanked me for taking it all with me as it made his job easier!! x
